I used this once and the magnetic end separated with part of it remaining but the magnet disappeared. Now I have a metal stick that does not do what I expected. I am very disappointed in this product.

I didn't know these existed. I set it at a couple of inches shorter than the log splitter so they'll all fit easily. Just make good marks in the log, remove the measure tool and go back and make the cuts. This has a strong magnet and it clamps good at the desired length.

A friend gave me a homemade one a couple years ago and I absolutely love it! Takes a lot of work and time out of cutting up long logs. I bought this one from Amazon because it has high visibility so you can see it in the brush, is adjustable for cutting longer pieces without having to get out a tape measure, has a very strong magnet, very durable, and reasonably priced. The only thing that could be better is if it would load and stack the wood for you! Very pleased!

Generally works OK if you are staging wood on level ground and no obstructions. When working on a hillside, it is a completely different story . . . as you work trees on an incline with lots of climbing around, the magnet lacks the strength to stay put on the bar and magnets are encapsulated in rubber and as the bar vibrates, the magnet slides toward the edge of the bar, the chain chews the rubber up exposing the edges of the magnets and the measuring rod falls off too easily.

If you like your firewood all the same length this is what you need. It has measurement right on the tool to make easy. I had to use some lock-tight on the screw that holds the disc on as it kept coming off. Other than that it works great.
