Full disclosure. I did not buy this model on Amazon. The thing was already installed in a house I bought in 2019. The unit failed in 2020, chirping loudly in the middle of the night until I could figure out how to disable it. The manufacture date for this supposedly "10-year" smoke detector was 2017. It had failed after just 3 years. I called First Alert to complain and they sent me a new P1210 free of charge. I had it installed. Flash forward to Thanksgiving 2024, where, once again, it failed in the middle of the night. This time, however, the tab that disables the chirping did not work and I sat on the couch with earplugs in, googling frantically to figure out how to make it stop. I found many middle-of-the night YouTube videos made by people with the same problem, but no answers. I waited until morning to call First Alert support and the rep told me to put the unit in into a bucket of water to kill the battery! Did this work? It might have, if I had been willing to stick it out longer than the hour I waited for the battery to finally die, but I was not. Only shutting off power to the room where it was installed worked.

I bought four of these supposedly 10 year units 2 1/2 years ago. Since then, the one near the kitchen has worked correctly. But the two bedroom units only lasted one year and the other one two years. Iām in an all electric home with no nearby sources of carbon monoxide And no smoke present .

I was disappointed that the date of manufacturer was August 2020. It seems that my smoke detector/CM combination was already four years old when I received it. It just seems wrong that they would ship a four year old detector. This may not be a problem because the detector is powered by 115 VAC. The 10 year battery is not activated until I twist the detector into the mounting ring.I would have given the detector a rating of 5 stars is the product had a significantly current date of manufacture.

This was a replacement for an identical one that had the battery fully discharged and the replace signal sounded, so I replaced it with no problem what so ever.

Install per First Alert's instruction, had just finished installing 3 other First Alert Smoke Detectors of the same configuration; which all 'Activated' Chirped Loudly A-OK. This Unit Did Not 'Activate' Bad Circuitry Bad Battery, bad, Bad. Bad! For a Smoke/CO Detector: One Failure Can Be Death. Filed a US-CPSC Report for this TMS. The final inspector should not be the customer, for safety devices. ~ RHF

After ordering, I first received a MUCH cheaper model (PRC 700). I returned it, of course, and then received what APPEARS to be the correct model.. BUT IT ISN'T! It's a model 1210 instead of a 710. And it was not in the original manufacturers packaging, and it is over a year old, leaving only 9 years of battery life remaining. Examine your purchases closely! You may be getting ripped off.
