Don’t waste your time. This is a poor fit for pw/bw80 models.

Does not work on a Yamaha PW80. Buyer beware. Improper description!

I have serious concerns about this part and hope that the Amazon description will be changed as this part does not fit a PW80.I can’t send it back because I reworked it for two hours trying to make it fit.I waited almost a month for this part to arrive from overseas and was disappointed when I tried to fit it. The pilot diameter that fits into the transmission case was too large. It was close but started raising a burr in the case as I tapped it in place. So I took it apart and polished off a few microns in my lathe. Upon fitting it into the transmission case, I discovered that this piece has a wider gear designed to be constant mesh whereas the Yamaha gear has a different tooth profile and it retracts from the transmission gear after starting. This new part has a ratchet ring which rides a helical spline and that is the only part that retracts. I hope the gear on the new part is riding on a suitable bearing or bushing but I didn’t check. What this means is that your 80cc engine is using power to spin a gear that is doing nothing most of the time. The next thing I noticed is that the hairclip spring on the ratchet ring is bent wrong where it hits the aluminum case before engaging with the gear. I had to reform in a vise it in order for it to fit properly. I never did get this part to work correctly and ended up fixing the original Yamaha part. The micro-finish on the shaft itself doesn’t look to be the best surface for the rubber seal on the side cover.
