Pretty easy to follow instructions and beginner friendly

We shared this with some girls at our local church, and they had fun with it. It's got decent enough instructions, and is a good intro to crocheting. My only gripe is I wish it included more hooks.

I haven't fully finished this project but I can say this is not a project for a beginner. The yarn alone is not beginner friendly. It frays easily and gets caught in the hook like no one's business. It is cute and will be fun for littles to play with. However, the eyes provided for the little turtles is NOT safe for littles. They can easily pull them out and choke. So I am not using those eyes on the little turtles. Also there is a stitch used on the little turtles that I have not ever seen or heard of, so I had to look it up, again making this not beginner friendly. For the flippers on the big turtle it says to use a tapestry needle and sew them in half. I didn't do that, I folded them in half and then just crocheted them together. It has given them a much better look.

This was a fun set and I love the idea of the matching game that all fits inside the mama turtle. It came with everything that you needed. As a beginner crocheter this set was pretty daunting though. So many little turtles and the yarn was fairly thin. It came out cute in the end but I should have started with something a little less...

If you have never crocheted before, I would not recommend this kit to you. There is a lot going on here. Yes, the kit comes with everything you need to complete the project and it comes with instructions on how to do the basic stitches, but there are so many tiny turtles to make that it can get overwhelming for a beginner. And if you’re just learning how to do the stitches, if you’re not quite perfect, the tiny turtles don’t turn out right. This is such a cute set and such a cute idea for a kit, but I would say it’s more intermediate, or at least for someone who has done a few crochet projects first.

This kit is just adorable. I love the colors of yarn for the turtles and the design is great. It creates a fun game for the kids to play when you get all of the pieces made. The instructions are well organized and clearly written.

I'm just a beginner, and I found it as a great set to practice lots of basics, like magic circle, single and double crochet, slip stitch, color change, etc. By the time I finished 20 tiny turtles I could do it all in my sleep, not to say whether I've actually fallen asleep while working on these. After I finished the "mothership" turtle, I still had enough yarn left for probably another dozen babies. The most challenging part, I would say, is to try to make perfect color circles on the tiny turtle bellies -- it's tricky to try to make the color-change inconspicuous and to make each round appear independent and seamless. My last few turtles definitely look more refined than the first few that I tried.
