About Hydraulic Tappet

A Hydraulic Tappet, also known as a hydraulic valve lifter or hydraulic lash adjuster, is a device for maintaining zero valve clearance in an internal combustion engine. Conventional solid valve lifters require regular adjusting to maintain a small clearance between the valve and its rocker or cam follower.

The hydraulic lifter was designed to allow the valve train to operate with zero clearance—leading to quieter operation, longer engine life, and eliminating the need for periodic adjustment of valve clearance.

Use for the Following Vehicles:

Replace Your Bad Hydraulic Tappets On Time

Hydraulic lifters can collapse, with no oil cushion to dampen the pounding from the tappet or push rod. Solid lifters can wear on their camshaft side, along with the camshaft lobes. Too much oil in the crankcase can cause oil aeration, or air bubbles, a condition when the crankshaft churns up the oil by direct contact.

The most obvious symptom of a faulty hydraulic lifter is the noise it creates in your car's engine. You can usually distinguish the faulty lifter by the distinct sound. Instead of a knock or ping, a faulty hydraulic lifter will usually make a sound more reminiscent of a tapping sound.

If your car has a faulty hydraulic lifter, replace it as soon as possible to avoid further damaging your engine.

Been in the engine for 6000 miles and seem to be working great so far. I replaced both cams and followers during a timing chain replacement. One of the original followers went bad at 220,000 miles of service and wiped a lobe so replacing both cams and all the followers seemed like a good idea. If any problems occur I'll be sure to update!

Replaced the passenger side cam and 1 rocker that had failed causing damage to the cam and created a loud ticking. Watched a YouTube video “ you’ll need a timing gear lock tool “ cheap on Amazon. Easy job and ticking is GONE. Have 5k miles on it so far and all good !

The Ford 5.4L 3V engines are known for their poor service of Valve and Timing components due to poor oil pressure. The fix is about $1000 if you can do it yourself. That would include all new OEM timing components and a new Melling high volume oil pump. If you are comfortable following well made videos, check out "Fordtechmakuloco 5.4L 3V timing". The parts are all here on Amazon and the videos are step by step. You won't regret having a vehicle that performs like new again.

I'm in shock, just spent a month building a new engine, heads etc rebuilt. In one week 3 of these lifters have failed. They totally collapsed. What an absolute nightmare. I'm even using a high pressure high volume melling oil pump. They're just garbage Chinese crap. This totally sucks, every time I stop driving I have to listen to the engine before turning it off so I can know if another lifter failed.

Be aware that these are only enough for one side and if you're planning on doing both sides you will need to order two sets.....
