Looked used. No matter what gemstone I tried on it the reading was always the same. Was able to verify gemstones on Presidium Gem Tester so knew what I was checking.

This is a replacement refractometer as the first one just wouldn't come into clear focus. Unfortunately this one has the same problem. If the eyepiece would adjust just a tiny bit higher (pulls out to focus) it would work. I will keep this one but use it only for approximate readings. I've had several of this type of Chinese refractometer previously and been happy, it's not that you need an expensive GIA model to do decent refractometer readings. But in this case, only if you don't mind a fuzzy view of the readout it's ok...but it could be so much better. I think this must be a factory error in a batch of these?
