It can over-tighten if you don’t tighten as you go. Don’t hold the base and extend the whole thing and use the base as counter pressure. It’s more durable than I thought!

This is the twist-lock version. Positive that you can lock it at whatever length you want. negative that it feels quite delicate (the lock mechanism) so questionable whether this one will last the year. The rid itself is pretty sturdy.
