I was somewhat hesitant to order this based on some of the reviews, but they seem unfounded now that I have the product and have used it several times. I own a 2010 Subaru outback -the screws provided are fine, they don’t touch the top of the car- and the kayaks stay secure. Travel time to the river is two hours.

I bought and put together these rack with ease. That said, 15 minutes in I did not pay attention and left off a part during assembly causing me to redo my work. This took double the time to put it together on my rack. About a good 45 minutes. The time it took also include me smacking the bars so the holes would line up. Not a problem but necessary on all of carrier tubes. This too was easy to align the holes and would not consider it a issue to knock off a star. My car is a Kia Soul with factory cross bars. Due to set up the screws holding carrier to the crossbars were not too long. If they were a quick stop at Ace Hardware store and $4 later, I would have fixed that issue. The only reason I would knock down a star was the thought of not liking the straps. I threw them in my kayaking box that holds all my gear to keep it together and able to throw in the back of the Soul in a moments notice. The straps will be used for that moment that the good ones break while tying the kayak from the river to go home.

This product is horrible. I used it once and it seemed to work fine, used it two days later to take the kayak back to the storage unit and the kayak fell offof the carrier and bounced off my car, twice. The mount/carrier itself started actually bending and rusting/the screws themselves seemed to be breaking? I don’t understand how the back part (higher of the 2 feet that you put the kayak on) of the carrier started to break after one use, I could actually bend it downwards and the screws came up and looked like they would break. Do not waste your money. You will end up with a cracked kayak and a dented car. Very frustrated. Spend the money and get a good kayak holder

These were prefect for the kayaks. The directions we a little small to read but once you figures that out it was an easy assembly. May an 800 mile round trip vacation with these holding my kayaks. Nothing budget or came lose.

J cradles appear sturdy when assembled. Assembly directions were nonexistent, but YouTube helped out. Used twice so far and they have stayed tight to the roof rack. The biggest issue is the straps are too short. I have 30 inch wide kayaks and the straps are barely long enough to feed into the cambuckle. Dissapointing that I had to go and buy a different set.

These are sturdily built and work great. I assembled the big metal brackets (4) between the kayak holder pipes (1 & 2) and under the rubber rubber carrier (3) then inserted the hardware. This way, the metal plate will not scratch the rack cross tubes. It fits my AA Products ADX32-60 oval shaped roof racks (also from Amazon) just fine.

Overall very good. Straps are very good. I thought the middle part was plastics in the picture, it is rubber, but works well. You WILL need to buy better mounting hardware. ($10) The provided ones are soft cheap metal with Philips heads that strips very easily, and that can be a nightmare to deal with on top of an SUV. Get strong hardware that you can get a ratchet or wrench on, you want it to be secure. And others have mentioned, the 3" bolts are too long anyway and hit the roof Get 2" good bolts and lock washers as needed.

Recently bought. Parts and hardware were very good for this price range. Everything went together easily after reviewing exploded view and parts list. Written step-by-step instructions would be helpful for less mechanically-inclined folks. Included "tools" were not useful, but perhaps better than nothing if you don't have any tools. I used 13 mm and 14 mm wrenches, and a #3 Phillips screwdriver (the usual #2 Phillips screwdriver may result in stripped screw heads). I found it better to mount the steel plate inside the rubber sleeve, as it will be easier on my roof rack crossbar, rather than have the painted steel plate right against the airfoil crossbar. Very satisfied with this purchase.
