Maybe I just got lucky! This $100 guitar has no issues (I work on guitars so I can spot problems quickly). I was so surprised: indeed, the finish was flawless, volume and tone knobs turned very smoothly, both single pick ups sounded acceptable, strings were not rusted, only a couple of frets were a little high, the neck was straight and smooth, no jagged edges on frets, the tuners aren’t the best but they work. The action was high ( .085 in), so I spent a couple of minutes lowering the saddles. Now, with the action at .069 inches (very low) there is no string buzz and the guitar plays great. I am 100% pleased with this purchase, unbelievable value for a very inexpensive guitar.

Read reviews & maker's dialog > research. Risk v Price Point. Positives > Purchase. Each purchase provides a unique experience for each buyer; here is mine. Out of the box – instrument arrived in good shape, already strung, inside a box providing minimal transit protection (score one). Whomever handled this particular guitar did excellent prep on stringing and tuning. Intonation was 3 and 3. Neck is maple; fret board is maple overlay (v rosewood) & designed to provide for the 22nd fret. Smooth unpolished neck / head. Frets well done, neck action smooth, no catching. Tuners function well. Even with a 'printed' flame top, body is finished well with binding around top edge. Bridge mic / string alignment could be better angled on top 3 (manufacturing design). A couple of weeks out of the box: string action set up removes minor buzz / minor intonation tweak on lower 3 / did not change strings but soon. This describes the instrument received. It's relatively light; purchased a Gator case - it travels light too.For beginners, part of full time guitarists — @ $99 this is a GREAT Value.

Is it a $1400 low end fender? No. No it is not. Is it a really good value for the money? I`ll say this, been playing since the early 70`s and got pretty good after I got a 57 jazzmaster then a 68 les paul but if I could have gotten ahold of some of thses "starter" guitars back then? I would have gotten better a hell of lot sooner. It has NO dead frets It has fair electronics and it played and stayed in tune well out of the box. I have since then lowered the saddles and turned the truss rod down a wee bit WEE BIT and it would have kept playing well the way it was but after 40+ yrs I`ve learned what I like and need to get my action and playability the way I want it. I`m waiting for my rev willys mexican lottery strings to see how it will really go but other than the neck being a bit fat-the guitar snobs mention baseballs bats at this point so use that as a reference-but other than a little thicker than I`d want on the neck it is everything and more I could expect for the $130 bucks and it looks good. The electronices are fine and I like the bridge a lot the neck is pretty good and the beauty of these guitars are you can go get a $200 premium set of texas specials or whatever if you don`t like them and you`re still down less than the 1st 6 months of payments on a 3 yr finance for a fender. P.S. It`s fotofinish but who cares? It looks GOOD and the body, neck, binding are all as flawless as that 15 yr old you yearned for in 10th grade. BUY IT. You won`t be sorry

I came close to giving this a 5 star review all the way. However, as some have mentioned it does require a little bit of set-up to make it a superb value. I have been a luthier for a long time so what I consider minor adjustments others might consider a major undertaking. If you can do a little bit of work for yourself, don't hesitate to jump in. Here's what I discovered on the one shipped to me. First negative: the string height at the nut was terrible. The plastic nut, though was quite hard (not sure what it is) and once filed and shaped works fine. Secondly, there were a few high frets which had to be dressed, crowned and polished. Third the intonation was only fair. It took me maybe an hour or two to correct these items. Finally: as you would expect at this price point , the hardware is usable, but not great. The tuners should probably be the first upgrade and the saddles might be the second. Now, on to the good. The neck feels very good and has roughly the same dimensions of an American Fender neck. The fretwork on the 12" radius neck was pretty good overall (other than the already mentioned high frets) , fret ends were dressed nicely and the action was able to be adjusted to a very low string height. It is actually a lot of fun to play. Next: the finish looks really good (especially from a foot or two away). What looks like tiger striped maple is most likely "photo-flame." There is however, real wood underneath (maybe poplar, but can't say for sure) and it resonates nicely. This guitar is incredibly lightweight and comfortable to play. Third: the pickups are better than I expected at this price point (still, a bit microphonic). I bought this with the idea of making it a project, but I've decided to leave it as is for a while. Truthfully, I'm having too much fun playing it. Again, if you can do the work yourself, go for it. I think you'll be happy. If you have to pay someone to do the work just use the money you would pay to buy a little better instrument (although, you'll be hard pressed to find a better looking guitar at anywhere near this price point!).
