It's a tap. It taps holes. Product was the correct sise and thread pitch, and worked correctly.

I used this 3-56 plug tap to install a mid bead sight on the aluminum vent rib on my shotgun. I drilled the hole with a #45 drill bit (.0820" diameter), and used WD40 as a cutting lubricant. The tap aligned well and cut very well. (I didn't have a tap & die set, so I just used a small crescent wrench to turn the tap.) The waste channels on the tap were quite sufficient for clearing metal chips without having to back the tap all the way out of the hole. I'd be confident purchasing more from this series if I needed them. Country of origin: China.
