So I've never worked with rivets before. I was attempting to make a costume for myself and needed to use them for the first time boy what an adventure. First off I learned if you try to set these on a surface that is not steady or wiggles or jiggles in any way the rivet will not set properly making it weak or often bending so bad it is completely ruined in the process all together then you have to go through the not so difficult process of removing it. As for the tool the base has two sides one side with a larger circle and the other with a smaller one so they only send one tool for all their sizes of rivets, make sure you're using the right side or it tends to move while you're setting it too. But once it's set i yanked and pulled on it and my fabric started to give before the rivet so I definitely give it a pass for sturdiness!!! It's definitely a learning curve though I was just fortunate enough to have a husband that walked up on me and said you're doing that wrong. Lol

I purchased these to add a bit of sparkle to a costume. (So I didn't even need them to be super sturdy, just to sort of stay in place in denim and look cool.)I tried to set about a dozen (using the included setter) and none stayed in place. The metal would bend and sorta, kinda, get a decent grip on the cap...but then as soon as the slightest amount of pressure was put on it, it would fall off. This happened *every single time*.Possibly with a professional setting tool these would work better. IDK. Even then, I have my doubts as these all seemed fairly flimsy (esp. for rivets which are meant not just to be decorative, but to hold things together!) So I'd guess that, at best, these would only work for decorative purposes and with a more robust tool than is included.

The size of the tool is for smaller rivets. Leaves marks and dimples on the ones I bought. I have to order another anvil set just to install these.

I bought these to fix a saddle fender but they are crap and don't hold the leather together. They just pop apart.

These rivets were much shorter than I thought I ordered. Had to send them back.
