This is an awesome mat. It’s super thin and flexible which makes it easy to fold up and stash away with the other grill accessories when we’re not using it.I use our propane-powered griddle on top of a portable grill stand, set up on our wood deck. I like to lay this down under the stand as an added layer. I’d feel confident dropping a hot coal on it… but with my setup, that won’t happen. More likely I’ll drop a greasy chicken wing covered in sauce. When it lands on this, it can easily be wiped up — less mess.

I got this mat to go under our above ground fire pit as a last layer of protection for our deck. While the pit sits up a bit from the deck and has a heat shield, one can never be to cautious. I like that it is thin and doesn't add any bulk under the fire pit. Since it arrived folded, I did need to allow it a day or two to sit out before using it to help reduce the creases. However, these are not too noticeable since the pit is sitting on it. Being black, it does show all the dirt and ash that falls on it. That said, it is pretty easy to clean off. Overall, it is doing a great job with protecting our deck.

I use this as a cover for my induction cook-top. It adds working space to my counter. It looks nice and wipes right off. The other nice thing is that it's fireproof and I'm able to cover the stove even when the burner is a little warm yet.

This is the perfect sized mat for my table grill. I haven’t tried it yet because it’s still a bit cold but I am sure it will be appropriate. If not I will let you guys know.

So I say floppy not flimsy because this is just supposed to sit there and as such it doesn’t need to be thick, right? It’s as smooth surface so it wipes down fine. I think most people will find it large enough for its intended purpose. I actually bought it so I can safely use my propane burner on a wooden picnic table and feel safe doing so. In my case the thin profile is perfect for camping because this is both thin and light. And I know I can’t judge heat resistance based off the thickness of the product. But I would have a little more confidence in this if it were slightly more substantial. It’s not a dealbreaker. I’m going to wholeheartedly use it in the spring, but sometimes your expectations of how a product should be differ from the practical reality. Still, this is a barrier between heat and a surface you want to protect and that protection I think is worth this price.
