PRO:The solid oak with burl finish is gorgeous. This clock has a classic shape and beautiful 15 min & 1 hr Westminster chime. The accuracy is comparable to my wind-up watches and is VERY easy to regulate. See image.CON:The clockworks are not sealed like a watch. Every 3-5 years they should be cleaned and lubricated. This is a time-consuming and expensive operation. Expect to pay at least $300.

Update from earlier review. It runs way fast and impossible to regulate! Too late for refund before I realized it. It doesn’t keep time which the major reason for having a clock.

Update: The chimes seemed to do well for a few days. Then the sound started going flat and it seemed like it wasn't hitting the correct notes. I don't believe it has consistantly played every quarter hour. The clock is sitting level on a desk. I have moved it once, very carefully. I plan to call the help line to see if a technician can troubleshoot this for me. I have been wanting a mantle clock with beautiful chimes for a long time. The quartz chimes are not okay. That is why I purchased this clock with real chimes.Original review: The color is too red in my opinion. However, my sauna from Costco, that is also very red, is in the same room as this clock, so I think this will work. The color of this clock is not a color seen often or used in wood furniture in the USA. It is highly likely that it won't match anything else in your house.I am in the process of unpacking the clock and will share some pictures. The case clearly states that the case is made in China. It appears to be made well. There were two pieces of styrofoam wedges in the back of the clock and one piece of blue foam. I worked the blue foam out first. It was very snug. I was very slow and gentle as I guided it out of the clock works. Next the two pieces of styrofoam. The directions said to slide it out. Nope. Too tight and I didn't want to damage my clock. Finally, I gently rotated the foam counter clockwise. It came out easily. Then I turned the clock around. I removed the white nob. It was snug, but pulled off. It is about an inch long. I thought it would be shorter. There were no rubber bands to remove as mentioned in the instruction manual. However, the manual was not item specific.I only moved the minute hand back 5 minutes so I could wind the clock. It appears to have already been wound at the factory. Then I moved the lever from silent to chime. I can hear the clock ticking, but it hasn't chimed. I need to do some trouble shooting. After trouble shooting: There are only certain locations of the minute hand when you can change the clock from silent to chime. I waited for one of those time zones and turned the lever from chime back to silent, then to chime again. That did the trick. The chimes are working now and they counted out the correct hour. There are five chime rods. This clock only plays Westminster chimes. They are my preference. Additional chime choices would probably not be used in my home.I do not see any way to select only chimes on the hour. It appears you get 15 minute chimes or you must go silent. The clock face is quite large. I have several mantel clocks from the early 1900's. They all have smaller clock faces than this clock. The volume of the chimes is just right. Not too loud, not too soft. I will leave the chimes on 24/7. I have the clock in our bedroom for the first night. If we find they disturb our sleep, we will move the clock away from the bedrooms.

The delivery time for the clock was as advised. The quality is less that I expected. The clock face access door and the back access door hinges are not a good quality resulting in the doors being floppy when opened. The rear door has a metal tab that connects to a magnet on the casing of the clock to hold the door closed, the metal tab had not been fitted properly and required a little glue to secure it in place. I have had the clock for three weeks and I have not been able to get the clock to keep good time, it is loosing two minutes each day and I have the speed adjustment lever at the maximum speed setting. I initially had trouble getting the clock to start, the supplier was very quick in responding to my questions.
