We have been transitioning to LED through out the facility, emergency light units being one of the last items. Researched both the CU2 and with remote and was surprised by a few things. These are receiving good reviews, but to be honest the amount of lighting that they put out is very weak, which shocked me due to these units being LED. Also the 2 snap in tabs that hold the mounting bracket and unit together are very weak! With the units being much smaller than the old units, they sure do cram it all into a small space. So be careful...when fumbling around with making sure everything fits, don't break the tabs!

Product is OK in small areas but way too small for regular rooms.

I actually returned this light and replaced it with a . But with the Cooper at 4x the price, this Compass model is the better value. The CU2 is very compact -- about 9 inches across. The lights can be aimed individually, and although the mechanism for doing so is cheap, clunky, and at the same time jiggly, the light heads are so lightweight that it really doesn't matter -- you'll never need to touch them after the initial setup. There's not much to the installation: connect the black wire to your 120v circuit, clip and cap the 270v red wire (or vice versa), twist the white to your neutral, and plug the included battery pack into the circuit board.Once it's wired in, mounted, and charged for 24 hours, the only thing left to do is (1) press the "test" button, or (2) cut power. That's it! No self diagnostics, no nonsense. The battery pack and connector appear to be a common 3-cell style found in cordless phones, so having done no research on suitable replacements, I'll hazard that at worst, an off-the-shelf replacement can be easily spliced in, if the battery with the correct connector isn't readily available. Each 2½ inch diameter light head has a dozen LED's under a floody lens. The light output is very even -- no real hot spots -- and does a great job of filling a small room.I mentioned that I returned this unit for another brand/model: I decided to spend the extra money on an emergency light that incorporates self diagnostics, rationalizing that I will probably never need this light, and will therefore probably never test this light to any sort of useful metric, meaning on the day I DO need it, it'll fail. So I spent the extra money on a light that will test itself, and flash a warning in the event something needs attention. But nothing about the construction of this Hubbell Compass CU2 gave me any pause for consideration as a no-nonsense, inexpensive emergency light.

this unit is light weight and easy to install. just remember to plug the battery wire connector into the socket. it uses the AA size rechargeable Ni/Cd batteries that is so much better and light weight than the old lead acid batteries. time will tell if the batteries will last.
