Great design, fits well, if you are mechanically inclined the instal is rather straight forward. Functions as good as new with much easier maintenance in the future.

Older shafts have pinion gear weled on. Lift tractor from front with jack. Old shaft will slide out. You NEED to remove plate holding steering gear on. Need to remove steering gear to unbolt steering arms. 19mm one side 15/32 inch other side. Mark left right or can mix up arms (I did = pita). Properly installed steering gear meets pinion gear halfway up pinion gears face.

shaft is different diameter than original which is fine but had to make modified spring clip for the lower section as none was supplied and original would not fit. surely a clip could have been supplied, I am assuming either they did not remember or did not see that one would be needed.

This was a perfect fit and big improvement over the original designed steering shaft for my 2012 Craftsman GT6000 garden tractor (Husqvarna). The improvements in design over the original stock steering shaft will make this job much easier if I ever have to replace the steering pinion gear again in the future, which is likely since the steering seems to be a weak link on this tractor.The steering on my GT6000 was in very poor condition. The teeth of the steering pinion gear located at the bottom of the steering shaft, as well as the steering plate, were badly worn over the past 12 years of use. The teeth were bent and stripped creating a lot of slop in the steering. I needed to replace both the steering shaft and the steering plate.The original pinion gear is permanently attached to the original steering shaft and cannot be removed without removing the entire steering shaft from the tractor, which can only be done from below.The hardest part of the job is raising the mower high enough to remove the steering shaft from below the mower. The new design allows the pinion gear to be removed from the bottom of the steering shaft without having to remove the steering shaft from the tractor, much less work. The new shaft is slightly smaller in diameter than the original but comes with all the parts necessary to make the conversion.I highly recommend this improved steering shaft kit over the original design. Everything feels rock solid, and my steering is as good as new. This kit is an outstanding value for what you're getting.

fit up is good. Replaces old steering shaft. No issues. DGS6500 craftsman tractor.
