This heater is fantastic, you don't have to worry about the tube breaking on the conventional heaters plus it has a digital readout to set the temp that you want to maintain. I've had it now for several weeks and it maintains the exact temp you have it set at.

This 300W aquarium heater has quartz heating elements that are durable and won't deteriorate in water. The heating elements are covered by a plastic structure to help keep fish safe. I installed this heater in a 100 gallon fresh water aquarium and it is more than powerful enough to maintain the 78 degree temperature setting I needed. A only six-feet, the power cord could be longer so that it will reach across larger tank stands. This short power cord issue exists with nearly all aquarium equipment. The temperature controller has a digital display that is relatively easy to operate and allows the temperature to show in either Celsius or Fahrenheit. The accuracy is calibrated in degrees Celsius, so expect the temperature to drift past the Fahrenheit setting selected as each degree increment of Celsius is larger than a degree increment of Fahrenheit. This minor variation does not affect your fish. The controller "saves" the settings in case of a power failure, which is a must have feature on an aquarium heater. The heater also shuts off and freaks out (sound an alarm) if the water level gets too low or it is taken out while still plugged in.I can't comment on the over temperature safety feature as I don't have an aquarium that I am willing to subject to that kind of heat. I will say that instead of having a set 95 degree shutdown point, it would be better to allow this to be set as well, or have it self-set to a temperature 5 degrees about the desired temperature.
