Acrylic shapes do bend the light similar to glass, but the quality is not quite the same. They "photography" is listed as one of the uses and they can be used to refract light a bit but the effects are not as clear as would be with glass. It was fun to run a laser through the shapes, though! You can see circles on each of the pieces that I suspect is from manufacturing.

I ordered this kit expecting to be able to experiment around with various rudimentary lens configurations. However, it's not all that practical because they're only about a half-inch thick. So I'm left wondering the actual utility is here? The kit is exactly as described and reflected in the product photos, so maybe I'm just not the target customer? Therefore I able going to rate this purely on product quality. As mentioned in the product description, these are not made out of optical glass, but rather acrylic. Unfortunately there's a fair amount of distortion and the acrylic is soft and easily scratches. There are also mold ejector pin impressions (the little circular impressions on the surface). I would have preferred to see these polished out. The only writing on the box is in Chinese and there are no instructions.Given these somewhat minor issues, I still believe the product description is accurate and honest, so I will only deduct a single star.
