I’m not a machinist but I do tap a fair amount of holes and these Irwin taps seem to hold up the best for me. This kit is nice because it has the three styles of taps in the size I use quite often

use these for chasing threads in cast iron engine blocks will do many holes before they go dull.

I bought a fresh rebuilt 350 from a company out of Texas the threads on the motor mounts we're a little Shawty so I bought these taps and now they are perfect

I noticed this 3 piece set while searching for a single 3/8 x 16 taper plug tap. I am very pleased with this set as the convenience is there for all 3 different taps if needed for use with harder materials than the normal 6061 aluminum. The bottoming tap is nice and the packaging makes it easy and quick 1 stop access for use. So far these taps are still razor sharp and cut through mild steels like butter. I do use Oatey tapping oil and would not recommend using dry; for any tap without TIN type coating.

Unless you are doing a lot of 'tapping' probably only need one of these, but good to have the variety and be able to swap back and forth helped. Tapped about 20 holes with no problems and they are still in excellent condition.

They are nice, for the money. Not sure if I would use them on thick steel or anything with some hardness, but they are fine for most uses.

This is a terrific set. I had to drill out several broken bolts and could not get my standard tap to start. The various taper lengths of these taps made the job simple. Highly recommended.

I bought this tap set because it came with all three types of taps for different kinds of holes. I really just needed a bottoming tap, but I am kind of a tool hoarder, so this is the perfect set.Just make sure you keep the threads oiled while tapping, and follow the instructions you find out on the web, these will last you a couple of lifetimes. When I am using them, I like to use CRC cutting fluid. It comes out of the can as a foam, so it won't fly everywhere when using a chuck to thread holes.

These are extremely high-quality taps. I needed to re-tap the hole in my drum throne and put a new wing-bolt into it to secure the seat. I used the tap with the most gradual taper and it did a great job. I then ran the one with the least taper through by hand but that probably wasn't necessary.I like these taps because they're so strong, and because they're made in the USA.There was a cheaper tap from China on Amazon, but you only got one tap with a medium taper, whereas this set has 3 and is reasonably priced. I trust the quality of metal on these American-made ones better than anything coming out of China!
