This thing is fast. A bit had to reverse and back out if you let it get away from you. You've got to really clean it out as you go.

An auger bit like this is necessary for drilling through something like a pressure treated 4 x 4 for a bolt hole. This one worked great for that purpose. A 7/16 bit is necessary for a 3/8 bolt. An auger bit is necessary to get the wood chips out of the way and clean the hole. Great bit!

I wasn't blown away with ease of drilling, but it met my expectations. Seems to cut a clean hole rather easily. Certainly easier in wood than a flat-type drill bit or a regular drill bit. I would purchase again.

To be honest, this is a replacement for the same product that I partially destroyed. It does say something that I'm re-buying the same product.I was helping out on a Boy Scout Eagle project making picnic tables and everyone there was really impressed with how my auger bit was boring through the treated lumber. It was lightyears ahead of the standard drill bit they had been using before I arrived. Unfortunately I hit a screw with the augerl bit. Well OK, a few times. The auger bit still worked, but I really had to push the drill hard, vice sitting back and letting the auger bit do all the work.When I got home, I ordered a replacement, since the first one was so good. One of these days I'll take the partially destroyed one to the grinder and see if I can repair it.

I was remodeling our bathroom to install my wife's Claw foot tub. I needed to cut a 1 1/8" hole for the tub waste though 3/4" hardwood flooring over 1/2" plywood over 1/4" underlayment. This auger made short work of that job, and the remodel job turned out great! There's nothing better than the right tool for the job.
