I've been using Herco thumb picks for a couple decades now so I'm familiar with them. Haven't purchased new in quite a while and apparently there have been some changes. For one, the thumb opening is much smaller. See the attachment with a "vintage" pick on the left. The new one doesn't really wrap around your thumb. It feels tight as you expand it.I guess the other change is, different material quality. Got to use this pic for about a day, then it broke exactly like another reviewer's pic. In 20+ years I've never had one of these break like that. They wear down over time, that's about it. It's a shame.

I'm 73.I play electric guitar on my couch.I drop flat picks.I never drop these.Slight adjustments in holding pressure and position and there is no problem picking anyway you want.medium is the most comfortable and versatile but weakens faster at the bend.heavy is uncomfortably stiff but the application of 'just enough (without melting)' heat at the bend will loosen the grip and it will last longer than the medium.

I have trouble finding picks that do not slip off my thumb, or ride too high on my thumb knuckle. (My fingers are one place on my body that never gains weight or puts on fat.) These fit snugly and comfortably and are pliable. Have you seen the ads for the very pricy picks that have springs in them? I decided to try these first, and they are everything I need for 1/30th the price. These also have holes drilled in the plastic to make them very easy to grip if you decide to change to using them as a flat pick. I can easily move back and forth between thumb picking and flat picking with these dandy little guys. I use these for dulcimer, autoharp, guitar, mandolin, and banjo and ukulele. Five stars for me.

I've just about tried every type of pick but because its an individual preference I won't pretend I'm an expert.I bought these because I wondered if I could use it for fingerpicking AND flatpicking but I should've known better. I usually fingerpick with no picks but sometimes want to emphasize the base strings while travis-picking. Turns out, its good for that. But I can't flat pick with it for nothin' because its angled for downstrokes (on my thumb) and, as it sits on my thumb, can not effect a proper upstroke without grabbing and lifting (practically) the individual string I'm attacking. Also when looking at the tip of the pick, for me, its always going to be angled 90 degrees pointing at the string but I want to instinctively move the pick and regrip it depending on what and where on the guitar I'm playing. The medium (thickness) is comfortable to my thumb (I have a large thumb).Yeah, you're not going to drop the pick as often (but I don't drop it that often anyway). I've watched some very good flat pickers use this on youtube and they grip it like a regular pick but able to somehow rotate it around enough to grip it properly. Out of the package, that's impossible for me. Perhaps if I took the heat gun and loosened the band I could, but that's unlikely to happen because if I did like it, I'd have to modify every Herc I bought. It works well for travis picking, but a slick-pick works better, and no pick works even better for me.If you need speed in flatpicking, this ain't it for sure. The material is Delrin and that's a plus for me.Overall, I judge this to be a good thumb pick for travis picking only. If that's all you want from a thumb pick, then give it a whirl.By the way, I tried making my own with different angles but the glues didn't hold. You could drill holes and feather the surface for better gripping power or plastic weld it but in my case they didn't hack it.

5 Stars, but just know after a few months they will wear down significantly and the thumb piece will break off. Thats just because the soft plastic they're made of, but totally worth it. These are the best shape for my playing, I've been buying them for years. So much better that other thumb picks which are too thick. Other thumb picks that are thick don't have the tone I'm looking for and are more uncomfortable.

These Herco pics fit my thumb perfectly. The tention in the loop is right on the money for a man my size. I’ve learned to suit my own picking attack by trimming the point off the pic just a little bit but that’s Personal preference. I would recommend these pics to anyone who plays acoustic guitar, and sometimes electric - as it keeps the position of the pick at the same angle. I’ve already recommended them to a dozen of my musician friends.

I really love these picks because not only can they be used for finger picking and strumming, but when used for strumming I no longer have to deal with the issue of the pick "spinning" between my thumb and index finger.

Long time flat pick player, got interested in thumbpicks trying to learn finger style. Saw a guy play awesome electric guitar with a thumbpick, so my little brain said "hey - maybe you could make some changes to expand your playing". Had one laying around, and had some good results, but it wasn't exactly right, thought I'd try some. These were shaped like a regular pick (one of my gripes about thumbpicks I'd seen and had). Of course hard to predict from a picture, so gave them a try. They were shaped as I'd hoped, but unfortunately the wrap-around part was so flimsy, using upstrokes without holding it like a regular pick, it flew right off. Possibly a heavier gauge would work, but at >$1 per pick, it might take a long time and lots of money to find the right one. Off to a music store. My mid/low rating is not really about the product-what I ordered is what was delivered. It's that it didn't fit my specific need. Unfortunately, I immediately lost the packaging so no return.
