Instructions are lacking, but You Tube videos helped. Kit, parts & pieces all fit perfectly and work very well. I absolutely recommend it if you dont like chucking grass in the pool, sidewalks or wherever else.

I have been mowing lawns with John Deere equipment for >40 years. I've owned three JD Tractors including the X370 with the 42 inch Accel Deep deck I presently own. I have ALWAYS bagged my clippings. I did try mulching once, decades ago, and had bad luck with the deck constantly getting gummed up and rather unsightly piles of grass clippings scattered about. Now, due to health-related issues, I am unable to lift the filled bags off of the tractor easily. Consequently, I decided to give mulching another try. I ordered this mulch control kit from Amazon since my local dealer did not have any in stock.Much to my surprise, the kit is a genuine JD part - NOT some cheap knock off from China. As usual from JD, the written installation instructions were horrendous. Luckily, there was a YouTube installation video by the one-handed mechanic that was quite helpful. Although the kit installed in the video was not a perfect match for the kit I ordered, it was sufficient to get the main installation concept across. I first had to remove an internal metal baffle from the deck. This baffle was used for the bagging kit. Once that was removed, there were sufficient holes in the deck to accommodate the mulching kit.Much to my surprise, the mulching kit (with the included mulching blades) did a great job! The grass clippings virtually disappeared into the lawn. This kit allows you to choose between mulching and side discharge. I found that using the side discharge feature along the perimeter of the lawn allowed me to send clippings back into the lawn. instead of into the mulch bed. Once a single pass along the boundary between the mulch bed and lawn was done, completing the cut with the deck set to mulch was easy. Part of the installation kit includes a lever that easily allows you to switch between mulching and side discharge. I haven't tried the system with grass that has grown tall since I regularly cut my lawn every 4-5 days.I can't comment on durability of this kit since I have only cut my lawn four times since installing the kit. I would mention, however, that the main parts of the kit a made from molded plastic. There are no metal parts. Will the plastic hold up to the rigors of a full cutting season? That remains to be seen. Initially, though, I am very well pleased with my purchase.

Just as I was afraid of plastic parts, broke by running over small twigs that I wanted to mulch. Two small plastic pieces broke off. What genius thought plastic in a mower deck is a good idea?

Added this mulcher to my John Deere X350 Accel 42" mower deck and I am very pleased with it. Was easy to install and does a wonderful job mulching or discharging out of side shoot as another option. If I want to bag anything there are just two (13MM) bolts that have to be removed and the shield to make bagging once again possible. I bit inconvenient but not the end of the world!

After reading existing reviews, I expected my yard would destroy it. I have many small sticks and Southern Magnolia seed pods on the ground. It chewed them up without damage to mulch kit. I even ran over a full-size brick without damage. It does an excellent job of mulching leaves to fingernail size.Works much better my previous mower with a steel plate over the discharge chute.

This my 2nt. one . First one broke when I hit a stick my dog left laying in the grass. It just works so good I had to buy another one.Will try to reinforce it with metal.

I am on my 3rd mulch kit, the factory installed one, a replacement unit, and a 2nd replacement unit.These kits do work very well, they mulch leaving fine grass particles vice large clumps. The downside is, they are plastic and are fragile. Ensure you do not run over rocks, or any large debris, they will bounce around under the deck, eventually smashing out the closed discharge chute, puncturing the plastic and rendering the unit inoperable.For this 3rd unit, I will attempt to armor up the discharge chute doors with sheet metal, hopefully it will last longer this go 'round. (edit 5/22/23. I did not armor it up, laziness got the better of me)Side note for the 2 star value: the price has gone up every time in the last year. Factory unit was $142, the 1st replacement was $180, and this new unit is over $200.******EDIT 5/22/23Broke the flapper door yesterday. This will be my 4th mulch kit in 3 years of owning the X330. New price, $238, this inflation is getting absolutely insane. Wish they made a simple mulch plug for Deep Accel 42" deck.Total spent on these kits: $760. 00 There has GOT to be something better.
