First impressions for this reel are great. Feels like it's made of quality materials. I like that the spool tension knob has detents so I can feel and hear exactly how much adjustment I'm making. Spooling it up with some 12lb mono and putting it on a cheap 66 rod I have I have yet to have a backlash. Playing with the tension and brake I feel like this thing cast forever long and is going to quickly become one of my new favorite reels. Very good bang for the buck. More to come as I get more time behind it. Tight Lines everyone!

I bought the Verus for a top water setup, because of the line speed, and smooth casting. It does great with braid, and casts long and smooth. The setup is easy for different lure weights and sizes. The magnetic drag makes dialing it in easy.

My experience thus far after about 100 casts, is that it continues to cast smoothly and holds up well reeling in 4-5lb bass.

Getting the point I think this is a worth it baitcaster it is well made and a pleasure to use. It is a nice lightweight reel so it fits a nice lightweight travel setup but even though it's a lightweight real it packs a punch. The real has plenty of torque to reel in those fish and the 18 lb of drag and slow down a mighty big fish. It is easy to adjust the brakes of this real and it is you need to fine-tune the real to whatever lure or bait you are casting. It took me about two cast to get this real dialed in and in the process of doing so I got no birdsnest. This is one of those reels that I feel is appropriate for both a beginner to baitcasters or the pro's . I think this reel is a solid value and would make a great gift for any fisherman who is either interested in baitcasters or someone who fishes a lot and just could use a new baitcaster.

Another great reel produced by Kastking. This reel not only looks awesome but this ultra lightweight reel fits perfectly in the palm of your hand and comfortably. I put it on a 7 ft. medium action rod and spooled it with 20lb braid. I started out casting some 1/4oz tubes and set the brake at 5 and casted effortlessly. Zero backlash. Set the brake all the way to 10 max and noticed it slowed up my casting distance a bit. So I set it at zero and boy did it cast, and zero backlash. The star drag adjusts easily with my finger or thumb. Retrieval is very smooth with no backlash on the retrieve. This is not my first reel from Kastking and won't be my Last. Don't hesitate just buy.

I have a strong preference for baitcasting reels and have several that range from value priced to high-end. Needless to say, I was enthusiastic to checkout this new KastKing Verus reel. The reel came nicely packaged in a handsome, gift-worthy box. The reel itself has a classy aesthetic: clean lines and an understated matte black finish. This reel is compact and light. It palms very comfortably in hand. For testing, I loaded it with 20 lb. (8 strand) braid and mounted it on a 7'4" medium power/fast action rod. I did some test casting with 1/4 and 1/2 oz. plugs. The most striking thing about this reel is the magnetic brake, which has more power and range than I've experienced with any other similar reel. The magnetic adjust knob has a nice positive click and ranges from 0 to 10. For the weights I was using, I didn't need to go above 3......the casts were long and smooth with essentially no backlash using light thumb braking. Surprisingly, I could make some really aggressive and snappy casts (can you say birds nest?) with no backlash issues. For a single (magnetic) brake reel, this is by far the most forgiving reel I have experienced. That said, turning the brake up toward 10 was excessive.....like casting through molasses....I can't see ever needing to use the upper half of the brake adjustment range. The drag is very smooth and adjustable, with a chunky star wheel and positive adjustment click. Cranking (gear train) action is very smooth. The EVA foam knobs are a bit chunkier than I prefer, but will undoubtedly be perfect for others based on personal preference. All things considered, I am very pleased with this reel and plan to add it to my rotation. Given the excellent braking performance and backlash resistance, this reel would be a great choice for either those new to baitcasters, or seeking a forgiving reel. KastKing really did a nice job with this one.
