ND filters reduce the amount of light entering the camera through the lens, allowing you to take pictures at longer-than-normal shutter speeds or to match the frame rate and shutter speed when shooting video.
In both cases, these filters are a necessity when shooting in excessively bright situations.
Variable ND filters are useful filters that allow you to adjust the amount of light reduction.
ND filters usually have a fixed density and only a fixed amount of light reduction, but the Variable ND filter allows you to freely set the density by rotating the frame.
The great advantage of the variable ND filter is that you can set the density according to the surrounding environment without the need to carry around many ND filters.

I happened to run into Kenko products by pure chance. I had no idea. I bought their retro filters.Then that was it. I was so much in love with their quality, I dug into more kenko products, I bought their CPL, ND , UV filters. I have a big collection of different filters, including tiffen and so. This one made me put the other filters aside and became my number one , sure to use filter. I would highly recommend their product to anyone who is after good results in photography, hands down !!!!

Ich nutze den Filter in der Outdoor-Portraitfotografie um bei offener Blende mit dem Blitz aufhellen zu können.Positiv:Der Filter lässt sich bei 35mm Brennweite (bezogen auf KB) im Bereich ND2 bis etwa ND100 nutzen ohne dass es zu störender Vignette oder Kreuzbildung kommt. Das reicht für meine Verwendung vollauf aus. Das ist auch die kürzeste Brennweite, die ich in der Porträts-Fotografie einsetze. Bei längeren Brennweiten ist das ohnehin kein Problem.Die Farbverschiebung ist mit etwa -200K zum warmen hin relativ gering und ist damit sogar kleiner als bei vielen preiswerten festen ND-Filtern.Ich habe folgende Filterfaktoren in Abhängigkeit vom Drehwinkel ermittelt:0° ~ND223° ~ND345° ~ND568° ~ND1280° ~ND30Negativ:Der variable ND-Filter wirkt auch wie ein Polfilter. Das kann auch unerwünscht sein. Zumal die Wirkung nicht wie bei einem einzelnen Polfilter gezielt steuerbar ist.Das Frontgewinde des Filters ist im Durchmesser um eine Stufe größer als der Filter-Nenndurchmesser. Bei mir 62mm gegenüber 58mm. Das ist einerseits gut, weil es bei Weitwinkelobjektiven einer Vignette entgegenwirkt; andererseits schlecht weil die meisten originalen Bajonett-Gegenlichtblenden dann nicht mehr passen. Man ist also gezwungen eine zusätzliche passende Gegenlichtblende mit Filtergewinde zu kaufen, die dann aber auch nur mit diesem Filter passt.Wenn man sich der oben genannten Einschränkungen bewusst ist, aber ein durchaus brauchbarer ND-Filter

Gerade beim Filmen oder Knipsen mit dem Handy gerät man draußen ja aufgrund der Lochblende doch schnell an die Grenzen der Gerätespezifikation bzw. -möglichkeiten.Deshalb kommt dieser Filter jetzt auch mit, wenn ich die „große“ Kamera daheim lasse:Mit geeignetem Smartphone-Cage oder einer entsprechenden MagSafe-Filterhalterung findet so immer öfter auch der schöne blaue Himmel seinen Weg ins Bild.Natürlich hat auch dieser Filter – physikalisch bedingt, wie alle variablen NDs – bei zu hohem Kontrastumfang seine Herausforderungen mit der Vignettierung.Hier sind Smartphone-Filmer zweifellos im Vorteil, weil deren Optik so klein ist, dass (je nach Aufhängung…) mit etwas Glück die gesamte Linse in der selben Vignette liegt und der Effekt somit kaschiert wird.Ansonsten hat die Firma Kenko optisch wohl ihren Teil getan, dass ausgeglichen abgedunkelten Aufnahmen nichts im Wege steht.

Il filtro, si colloca nella fascia di riferimento intermedia, conveniente, è destinato ad un utente con esperienza hobby/home users. È realizzato con materiali discreti, e non presenta particolari sovra/sottopposizioni di tono, con un trattamento superficiale delle lenti che anche con un doppio filtraggio B+W UV MC garantisce un buon risultato, similare ai filtri HOYA Japan. Comunque funziona bene.

I received the Kenko PRO1D Smart Variable NDX3-450 Filter with a 67MM diameter. Unfortunately I received a used item, even though it was bought new and shipped from Amazon. I returned the filter as it had imperfections in the glass and a small scratch. Otherwise, for the price it seems okay, but in a brief test, I noticed a warm color cast.One interesting thing is that the front of the filter is threaded and is larger in diameter to prevent vignetting. However, neither the Amazon description or the manufacturer website states what the front diameter of the filter is. Three stars for the filter, and 1 for Amazon for shipping used stuff, which is not uncommon.
