The sound of the instruments in BG is not as distinct and detailed as in Mullard KT88. Sound level from about 12 - 16KHz has a hissing sound.

You won’t believe the soundstage these tubes create. I’d had this amazing integrated Cary loaded with Electro-Harmonix tubes. Had even been back to the factory for a capacitor upgrade and heard back it was great. After about fifteen hours it’s the best tube system I’ve ever owned. Great warmth, depth of field, and shimmering high ends.

You might want to try the cheaper re releases of the KT88. If your amp will also accept the (Gold Lion) KT77, and if , like me, you weren't really thrilled with the initial presentation of present release KT88 tubes, I would go with their KT77. The recent EH version of the KT88 looks to be based closer to the original KT88 (top getter). I'll post up a GL KT88 vs EH KT88 when the EH have had more burn in time.

I love the sound of these tubes! To me they sound just a little punchier that ELl-34's that came with my amps. I have two Prima Luna Prolouge four amps, both running Gold Lion KT88 tubes. One Amp runs the midrange horns on each speaker and the other powers the 18" bass drivers and horn tweeters. The custom built cross overs have volume controls on the mids and tweets, so dialing in the right amount mid's or high frequencies is a breeze.From time to time I play with the mix, depending on what I am hearing and want to hear.
