Safe Chest Binding Hack

Tips for healthier chest binding

Everyone binds differently, the trick is to figure out what is safest and best for you.

1. Limit the amount of time you bind.

  • Don’t wear binders for longer than 8-12 hours and do not sleep while wearing your binder. It’s also crucial to schedule binder-breaks daily and make sure you aren’t binding every day. People who bind their breasts more frequently, such as every day, are more likely to experience negative side effects.

2. Avoid binding while working out.

  • While physical movement might exacerbate some individuals’ dysphoria, exercising is when you need to breathe deeply, move freely, and you are more likely to be sweating. If you still want to flatten your chest while exercising, search for a sports bra that has this effect.

3. Get the right fit.

  • If you want to wear a commercial binder, take the time to make sure you’re buying the right size and that it fits you correctly. When buying a commercial binder, do some research to find the perfect binder for you and read customer reviews to get a sense of the sizing accuracy. Try not to buy one that is too tight—if it causes pain, cuts/trauma, or restricts your breathing, then you need to go up a size or two. A binder should allow for breathing normally and allow for air circulation (look for breathable fabrics).

4. Don’t bind with plastic wrap, duct-tape, or bandages.

  • These are associated with increased negative symptoms. Duct tape can damage your skin, and bandages may tighten as you move. You might feel a rush to start binding or lack the resources to purchase a commercial binder, but it isn’t worth putting your health at risk. Sports bras, layering shirts, or wearing athletic or neoprene compression gear, are the options associated with the least amounts of negative side effects.

5. Bind less if you are planning to have top surgery.

  • If you plan on having top surgery (a procedure to reduce or remove breast tissue), it’s best not to bind as often, as this can affect your skin's elasticity and have surgical impacts. Some FtM (Female to Male transgender) mastectomy researchers feel that longterm binding may cause a decrease in skin quality, specifically elasticity, which can actually make performing a mastectomy more complex.

6. Listen to your body.

  • If you feel pain or have any difficulty breathing, remove your binder (or other restrictive garment). Maybe what you were wearing was too tight, or you have been binding for too long without a break. You might feel tempted to bind all the time if it has a positive impact on your dysphoria or mental health, but it’s critical that you take care of your body in the process.
  • Much more research about the health and needs of transgender men, non-binary, and genderfluid people is needed. These populations have different healthcare needs, and everyone deserves access to adequate and personalized healthcare.

actually true to size (got a 4XL) fits perfect, binds down as far as i'd like to bind. i can still move around and breathe just fine, it doesnt roll up like my previous binder was. stays where it should. i'll 100% be ordering more binders from them.updated to add a couple pictures i took. this binder is just super comfy, i've already recommended it to a couple other transmasc friends of mine. and i am 100% gonna be ordering a few more!

I've been avoiding binders for years since my UW one was so painful. This one is great, comfy and much easier to put on.

Got this for a friend of mine. They said it's very good and gender affirming, so I haddd to buy one for myself as well, very soft.

I am 215ibs, and have a pretty large chest. For the longest time i had just given up on being flat, ive always had to buy the longer binders that roll upAnd make me sweat like crazy but this one is AWESOME!! I’m still not completely flat (which is fair, because i dont think i could get completely flat with how large my chest is) but im the flattest ive ever been!! With other binders you can tell with a shirt on that one side of my chest is bigger than the other, but this one you cant see it at all! This binder is awesome and absolutely worth the money if you are bigger, its well made, comfortable, and works pretty darn well!

I am so angry that it was bra size, not full coverage as shown in the photo of the product. I need this for an upcoming major event and it barely covers me. in fact, it doesn't cover me and It rolls up on me and looks weird. Now I don't have time to get what I need and I have to decide if I'm going to use this with half the coverage or if I am forced to go without. The arm holes are too big and skin pops out over it. It's really upsetting and I don't have time to find something else, I liked the idea of it being adjustable but it's too small in length had I known I would have never purchased this. This is not for someone with big breasts, Huge disappointment

This binder is much longer than typical mainstream brands, while maintaining comfort. I have double d's(at least, i havent had a bra in a while) and this makes them disappear. The bottom does roll up a little but however.

i like how flat it gets me, however i do not like how painfully tight it is and i followed the size chart. i heard several stitches being ripped when i put it on to the loosest setting so i don't think i can return it for a different size :/ i'm going to try to see if i can loosen the fabric somehow because my ribs are begging for help after putting it on a few minutes ago. butttt i'm the flattest i've ever been so maybe if this was two sizes up id be comfortable. 3 stars for the quality, flattening ability, and comfort.update: bought another one two sizes up and it was STILL hurting my ribs. flattens the same amount as the previous one. i still have to wear it at the loosest setting like the one before. also im chubby and the band at the bottom hurts because it's always digging into my skin so if you're plus size and want a binder do NOT buy this one.

This is my first chest binder I have purchased so please excuse my less experience self with binders. I am very self conscious of my breasts & have body dysmorphia. I have been wanting a binder for a long time but I didn't know to shop for one since I have a big bust that makes it difficult at least for me to find one that will be comfortable, let's me breath without feeling discomfort & will give me at least a semi flat chest. It is hard to find one that will work for a big bust, I have done my research & read on some advice when buying & wearing a chest binder. I have noticed that it is kind of hard to find a chest binder that works for large busts & find one that gives you a perfectly flatten chest without discomfort.I have purchased one from this company but the bindfree one but I have noticed it works better for a smaller bust since it is much easier to flatten the chest with the bindfree. I returned it & decided to give this one a try it's catered for larger breasts. It did take a while to get to me than the bindfree but when I got it I was so excited & happy. I got the sticker & the air freshener it comes with. It is hard to put it on when it's not hooked together so do hook it up on the first row because it is difficult to hook it together especially for me who isn't the skinniest person. Do not wear this if you have damp skin, makes it harder for it to slide down. Make sure if you're done showering to have your skin dry. Reason why I gave it four stars is because it does bunch up on the lower back & moves down a little bit. So I have to pull it up to fix it because if I don't, my breast kinda jiggle when I walk which is what I don't like especially in public. It is comfortable, breathable, all three rows of hooks feel comfortable & the hook part does not scratch me at all. It is also hard to change the rows of hooks, I do it myself now that I am used to it but if you want it to be easier you could ask for help if you want to move it to the second or third row. I don't get a fully flatten chest, if anything it looks like I have big pectorals. I do wish I did get the fully flatten chest but I would rather get comfort & breathability than to have an extra tight, squeezing binder that'll give me the flat results. I am gender fluid so this binder makes me very happy, I really do like it & I am so happy I got the right size. Always measure yourself, do your research, always take breaks from your binder, never wear it to bed ever, make sure to get your body used to it by wearing each row of hooks one by one each week so you don't have an issue wearing it & if you're a beginner start wearing it for a couple of hours instead of the 8 so you can get used to it little by little. It's much better for larger breasts like me who is a 42D, it's stretchy, soft on my skin & I have not gotten a rash or anything from wearing it for a few hours. This binder is everything to me, I love wearing it & I feel complete wearing it too.
