Purchased these snare wires for a 1982 Acrolite. It's always been a great sounding snare with the original 12 strands, but with these Ludwig 20 strands on it sounds incredible. Only issue is the absurdly thin cords that come with these new wires. Seriously, they're the thickness of dental floss and that's even being a little generous. I tighten my snare wires just enough to bring the wires flat against the head, they are by no means cranked. After about an hour of cumulative playing over the course of two sessions, the cord on the throw off side broke and my snare became a timbale. Since the P85 only came with cord holes in 1982, the tape that comes with the new wires is no help. Thankfully, the cords Ludwig used 40 years ago are still strong.

They are fine. I bought it to install on my supraphonic 14x5 as my previous one just ripped off a couple wires. They were the standard ones which came with the snare drum. Immediately I noticed these new ones were rattling a bit and the sound of the drum was a little brighter. That's why I'm quite sure these aren't original.If I knew that before I would probably get a Puresound instead

I bought this to put on my perfect 1966 Supraphonic 400, that still had its original wires. I was kinda reluctant to change something that had been on the drum for so long, but I am glad I did! The first hit sounded just like the first hit on 'Light My Fire'. The drum came to life! Now it sounds exactly like what you hear on so many great old records. I guess you have to choose how you define what is original -- do you want the drum to have the original part, or its original sound?

I bought these to replace a set of Pure Sound "Pro" wires on my '69 Acrolite. I was never happy with the sound of those, and now my Ludwig snare sounds like a Ludwig snare again.
