These have just arrived and have already been put to work. I have been waiting on these to replace standard type M5 hex nuts that were used on a product I previously purchased. The problem is that, in use, the standard nuts tended to loosen, even when using a split-type lock washer. The serrated flange incorporated into the design of this nut really bites into the steel surface and will not let go, so the bolt simply does not loosen.I needed this product to be stainless steel to prevent rusting and, therefore, to enable future disassembly, if needed. This product is 18-8/304 stainless steel so that problem is taken care of. I also like the fact that this product was delivered in a quantity of 100 so that I will have some remaining in stock of this popular size for future projects. Finally, I am tired of trying to find small hardware pieces like this at the local big-box stores. It is such a colossal waste of time, and you can never get any help for the staff! This product will help me break that bad habit. Thank you.Also, I now see that this manufacturer makes an assortment of these serrated flange hex lock nuts(including sizes M3, M4, M5, M6, M8, M10 & M12 for a total of 140 pieces) that I will probably order in the near future so that my projects do not have to wait for the right part to be delivered. Planning ahead is a good thing to paraphrase Martha Stewart.

High quality hardware similar to what's found in all my 1/10 scale M3 kits. Excellent replacement and all have good threads so far. Stainless is a little more costly, but will not rust and seize from high moisture or repeated water exposure. Hobby shops aren't the only source for M3 hardware anymore! For a few pieces, they usually cost about $3, but you get a whole lot more with these with identicla or better quality!

I ordered separate sets if M8 nuts. These have the flange on the nut, which allows me to use them without an additional washer. They're made out of stainless steel and so they'll work in many applications where you need extra protection from elements, like outdoors, saltwater, car applications, etc. I tested them against a set of M8 bolts, and there were no issues; they bolt together just fine.
