Attention Ruger Takedown owners looking to dabble with optics. You will want a device like this that attaches to the barrel to hold a zero reliably. When attaching an optic to the receiver, zero will not be maintained reliably between takedowns and shooting positions, no matter how tight the retention ring.Like the factory Iron sights, this optic mounts directly to the barrel and holds the zero. This is the way.

This is a great system to mount optics to a takedown Ruger 10/22 with a magpul stock.

Nice mount and the best way to put a compact red dot or similar optic that aligns with the barrel instead of the receiver on 10/22 takedowns. If you actually use the takedown function often this is the way to keep a solid zero over time. The U channel is good enough to retain basic iron sight function with an optic installed. Going to go over mostly the pain points but still a good buy. This will need fitting on the factory Ruger X-22 Backpacker, model 31152 and any others with the William's fiber optic rear sight. Its a shame the two companies don't talk to each other more, because this mount should probably come factory standard since they are already using a Mapgul stock system, why not use the barrel block too. Probably a lot cheaper for them to buy by the hundreds or thousands too.For fitting either you shave a few mm off the point of the rear steel sight or you cut a few mm with a "V" file in the top magpul aluminum mount plate. Neither will affect function and can barely be seen, but given how those two metals act when exposed over time, the latter makes much more sense and is easier too. Anyone that says they didn't have to fit theirs I doubt, they probably don't notice the slight gap or pressure the point is putting on the top plate.Otherwise the install is not terrible, but they include zero hex keys (at least one for their own bolts would be nice to store in the stock along with other handy field parts) and leave out a TON of information on "step 2" which is removing the factory block from the barrel.Ruger needs two different SAE hex heads (so a total of 3) for installing or removing the barrel block and finding proper & CORRECT information (not random internet guesses) on torque for all of them is a pain. Don't go by feel and overdo it because too much torque it will affect accuracy, go research it.Also the recommended 5 inch pounds on the top mount bolts is barely enough to hold it on, the lowest setting on my handheld torque driver was "too much" and clicked right away after only using two fingers on a tiny laptop repair kit driver and a light touch to start them.

Installation was very easy (installed it in a couple minutes while talking on the phone about a completely different topic). As mentioned by another reviewer, the top part of the mount was prevented from seating properly by the rear sight on the rifle. I also have the Ruger 10/22 that came with the X-22 Backpacker stock and fiber optic sights. My workaround was to gently file a notch into the spot on the mount that came in contact with the rear sight with a 1/4” round file. It’s just enough of a notch to clear the rear sight and doesn’t impact the integrity of the mount. It’s a .22, not a Mosin Nagant, so I’m not worried about long-term stresses. Also, I am able to view and line-up the rifle’s sights through the mount’s pass-through with a Bushell TRS-25 red dot optic mounted, but the whole sight-picture is very small...barely larger than the sights themselves. It’d be much more effective to just remove the upper part of the mount to get a broader sight-picture, but they’ll work in a pinch if the mount stays on with the optic.

This is a great item if you’ve got the X-22 Backpacker take down. Installation took me about 10 minutes. It does take some knowledge of your rifle, so YouTube videos may be needed if you don’t know much about disassembly. I really like how I can co-witness the stock “iron sight” without any changes being made to the rifle. I have a Bushnell TRS-25 mounted on this and it works very well. Great set up, but they ask too much money for the item in my opinion.

I purchased this for my Magpul Backpacker Takedown (TacSol build) and it has worked perfectly for a long time, no complaints. Excellent machining of the aluminum and the coating has stood up to some (ab)use.Eventually, I moved my build onto a X-22 Hunter takedown stock and this part fit. I noticed some Magpul retailers appear to sell this product specifically for the Hunter X-22 Takedown at a different (sometimes higher) price. As far as I can tell, the parts sold as "specific for each rifle stock", are actually identical.

The instructions are printed on a cardboard sleeve that is wrapped around the box. The removal and transfer of the factory internal parts was fairly easy. The 2 factory screws used to bolt the block to the barrel did not have a torque value so I applied blue thread locker and tightened them hand tight with an Allen wrench. I'd say it's around 25 inch pounds. The other screws/bolts have the torque specs listed in the instructions. Once it's all together and I mounted my Sig Sauer Romeo5 red dot optic it is very strong and rock solid. This optics mount only fits the rifle while using the Magpul X22 Back Packer stock. Together it is the best setup for the Ruger 10/22 Take Down. I have not had the chance to zero the rifle and test this setup and its ability to retain zero repeatability but from other reviews I have seen it should perform outstandingly.I will update this review after some use.Edit: This optics mount combined with the Back Packer stock is the best setup for any Ruger 10/22 Take Down. Shooting 1 inch groups at 50 yards and 2-3 inch groups at 100 yards. The Sig Sauer Romeo5 red dot sight is awesome as well. I highly recommend this setup!
