I didn't test it when I got mine so it's too late to return it, but it has a problem: the spade doesn't slide in the SDS max shank (I tested on Makita DHR400 and Makita HR4003), so whenever the hammer has pushed the spade to the max, it is essentially stuck there, until you hit it back to the bottom. This is a problem when digging in irregular terrain, where sometimes the spade will go in like in butter, and then the hammer doesn't work until you pull it and hit it somewhere else harder. I am in the process of sanding the indentations that are used by the SDS retaining mechanism, so maybe the bit will become looser, like its friends (whenever the chuck is pushed back, the bit can slide, so it really has to do with the things that can go in the grooves).

Bought it for use with an SDS Mac rotary hammer I had. It turned out to be a lifesaver when grading a garden path I was paving.

The spade bit was the answer to cutting through rose bush and small shrub roots to access a leaking water service line to a house. The water service to a residence had been leaking for an extended period of time. Nearby plants had made this their favorite watering hole and cutting through them with a shovel and axe was a lot of work and time. The spade on my Makita rotary hammer allowed us to cut through the roots, clay and gravel to access the leaking pipe and corroded valve. Probably saved a couple of grand bypassing a plumber on a Sunday call. Piping to the house installed by the original contractor was an abomination!

This is just the ticket for digging holes in hard, dry clay or areas loaded with roots! If you can't just push a shovel in, you want this blade! Faster and easier than using a pick or digging bar. Cuts through roots. Appears very strong and good quality.

It’s fantastic. I’m a plumber who digs a lot of sump pits in basements and it’s great for digging in the undisturbed soil under the concrete. This spade does an amazing job.

This spade works great and is a time saver for hard clay, frozen ground, and flowable fill. Works really great in confined areas or when you just want to dig a small hole without disturbing the surrounding ground. It is an accessory that gets used a lot...more than I anticipated when I first bought it. Seems to be durable.
