The hammered brass looks great. All the hardware feels solid and firm in the drum, nothing is shoddy or ill fitting. The throw off is smooth and easy to operate, feels good in your hand, not sharp or flimsy. The snare wire tension adjustment knobs are terrific, just the right amount of feel when you rotate them, not too hard and not too easy. The knobs have soft detents which help you dial it in just right, and having tension adjust on both sides of the drum is really nice. Tone depends so much on drum heads and how you tension them, but I will share my thoughts on how it sounds. The drum is loud, you don't have to swing hard to get a lot of sound out of it. At low tunings the brass shell will ring and sustain for a long time, probably too long for most peoples taste. At a medium to high tuning the brass "ping" is short and very musical. If you want an attack heavy splat sound you will probably need a lot of muffling. I put in an Evans HD Dry batter head (the one with the holes around the edge). I find the sustain is still pretty long, but I like a more open toneful sound. Think Californication and you're in the ballpark. I'm very happy with the drum, looks great, sounds great, feels great. Recommended for anyone who likes the bell brass sound.
