The Mitutoyo Series 128 Vernier Depth Gauge, Micrometer Type, Metric, have a measurement range of 0 to 25mm, a resolution (or smallest graduation interval) of 0.01mm, with + or – 0.003mm of accuracy. The vernier scale provides precise measurements. These gauges include a 4mm diameter measuring rod for flexibility in measuring range. The units have a ratchet stop for uniform pressure and a measuring rod clamp for stability. They have a satin chrome finish on the thimble for readability. They are available with a base either 63.6mm or 101.6mm long. Depth gauges are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering.

Depth gauges are precision measuring instruments used to determine the depth of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot. These gauges often take the form of sliders that travel on a measuring beam or rods, are moved to position by hand, and then adjusted with a calibrated screw. The base of the gauge rests at the top of the shape whose recession is to be measured, while the beam or rods extend to the bottom of the recession to determine the measurement. Gauge position is read from a graduated scale, dial, counters, or an electronic display.

Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and related systems. The company, founded in Tokyo in 1934, formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963 with headquarters in Aurora, IL.

Appears well made, very precise depth measurement is possible with this tool. Used for setting up a Bosch fuel distributor unit plunger depth and setting air plenum specifications during a rebuild.

Wonderful product, Mitutoyo quality which cannot be beat!Used it to measure depth of pistons in the cylinders of an old 1930’s Hudson engine to determine proper quench / squish to order a custom head gasket.

Excelent micrometer. Super nice finish. And the thimble runs smoooth. Even though the ratchet is plastic I find it much more comfortable to use than the starret and I find it more repeatable also.
