About this item

  • EFFICIENT POWER: 55lb Thrust - this 12v electric trolling motor provides excellent power and efficiency for any boater. High quality components allow the motor to run all day long without overheating, or making noise to spook fish.
  • FEATURES: This motor features a 36 inch fiberglass shaft, a 10 LED battery meter, a 6 inch telescoping tiller handle, 30 degree adjustable head, and 3 blade propeller. The tiller angle, as well as mount, height, angle, and direction can all be adjusted and locked into place when needed.
  • SPEED: This motor has 8 speeds, 5 forward and 3 reverse. The motor is designed for trolling, so the top speed of this motor is about 4mph, but depends on your boat shape, weight, water, wind, and other factors. Our 3 Blade Propeller gives the motor great low end torque to get the boat moving.
  • BATTERY: The 55lb X Series motor requires one (1) 12V Lead-Acid Deep Cycle or Lithium Deep Cycle battery (battery not included), 50ah recommended. The motor also includes a 50amp circuit breaker which is recommended at all times to protect from battery voltage surges. Max Amp Draw: 52A

We bought this to power our 10 ft. boat that use use on a smaller lake that only allows electric motors. It works fine and has plenty of power for it. I like the battery power lights on it so you have a good idea how much electric power is left in the battery.

I purchased this trolling motor for a week long fishing trip in Canada. We went through a fly-in operator that only has 14' aluminum jon boats on their lake. The boats are equipped with 9.9 HP outboards, but trolling motors are a nice addition to be able to fish more comfortably. I opted for the larger 55 lb. thrust to be able to move the boat quickly. Canadian winds can be no joke and having more power gets you out of trouble in a hurry. The unit is heavy. With a 55 lb. thrust motor, I'm assuming the head is loaded with copper anodes. It is very powerful though. I was impressed at how fast it would push the little boats. Even when loaded with two adults and our gear, this motor in high gear would put out a wake. As others have mentioned, the jump from speed 4 to speed 5 is extremely large. I expected maybe a more gradual increase. If you aren't paying attention and crank it to 5, you could knock someone off their feet. The only drawbacks for me were the noise. It has a lot of vibration and noise. The handle assembly in the plastic head vibrates a lot. And the motor itself is pretty noisy. To be fair, that seems to be more and more common in transom mounted trolling motors these days. I think the larger companies like Minn Kota and MotorGuide make their money off expensive "smart" trolling motors and these transom mounted ones have become cheaply made because of that.Overall this is a good unit for the price point. It has plenty of power to move you around quickly. If you aren't fishing, this is a great buy. It would be great for moving a small tender around. If you are using it for fishing, be aware it's a little noisy.

Waited a while to give this review I’ve used it two seasons now and I have not used it a lot. The hard part is finding the right depth to where you don’t get a bad vibration but other than that, it is done its job. Use it to troll my 12 foot aluminum boat when I’m not using my gas one.

Using this on an 11' inflatable dinghy (Costco Tobin Sports). Running it straight for 4 hours barely uses any battery, it has great features, it's light, and been very reliable so far. I also just hooked up a Garmin striker 4 vivid cv fish finder and was able to mount the GT20 transducer to the bottom of the motor. It fits perfectly and there is no electronic interference noticed on the display of the Garmin unit and it's also plugged into the same battery as the trolling motor. Overall, I've been very impressed with the Newport motor!

Love this motor in my Old Town canoe. Seems to have lots of thrust and comes with a three blade prop which looks nicer than two blades.

It works good, it's fast, doesn't use a ton of battery. Not great in weeds. Def not a weedless prop or even close to one. Old Minn Kota with weedless prop works way better in thick weeds but still have to clear it tho

Wow! Used on an Aquos 10.2 ft Pontoon Boat and this motor was awesome! Durable: On a new lake and hit a shallow area unexpectedly. The motor didn't have any issues. No visible damage and it was easy to raise to get out of that area. Talk about power! Tri-blade prop and 55 lb thrust got the job done. When popped into 5th, the front of the boat lifted and the rooster tail was quite enjoyable. Battery drain? Not much at all, even when in 5th. You will have hours of fun and enjoyment with this motor.

I wish I’d of used and opened this before the return period expired. I had a 36 pound minkota before this. Never had issues with battery life or running it wide open. This Newport motor is terrible. Rattles because of all the plastic it’s made with. Has no where near the power of a minn lots of equal power. And for the first time ever in my river run( it’s the same every trip) my battery died. Thing drains it looking for more power which it obviously doesn’t have. I’m using a blue top optima marine battery. No reason a few hours trolling should kill this. Super waste of money guys.EDIT: 9-1-2022had this thing less than a year.........what a joke still. the prop nut has come loose twice, so much so that the prop wouldnt spin with the resistance of the water. both times this happend while i was on the river.....and yea it has 5 speed settings................which is actually 2 settings.....setting 4 will give me a creep. the other settings all go wide open. im in the process of contacting this joke of a company to see if theyll give me some credit to but another brand or something......hell, id pay to send them this thing back for my money back....STILL JUNK DO NOT BUY

This motor pushes my 14 foot aluminum with 3 adults with no effort at all. I can't say anything negative about it. Does not use a whole lot of battery power. It reviewed very high all over the place and Amazon is the only place I found it in Canada. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a decent trolling motor. Full Disclosure: the first motor I got lost 2nd reverse gear after 2 days. Replacement came in 4 days and has performed flawlessly. Doesn't affect my opinion of this motor and brand in any way

Great performance on my 16 foot freighter canoe. I bought a 65Ah battery at Canadian Tire, which let me use the motor for about 2 full hours at full thrust (approx 500lb of load in the canoe, including the canoe itself). I use it for moving from a fishing spot to another. It is very quiet and the 5th speed feels very powerful. On its first use, I did hit a rock on the bottom of the lake (not very far from land) at full thrust and speed, but it did not affect the motor at all. The fin of the bottom the motor casing is very solid and seems to protect the impeller. The battery gauge on the top is very useful.
