NICHE PISTON

An ATV piston is a component of engines, pumps, and gas compressors. It is located in a cylinder and is made gas-tight by piston rings. In an engine, its purpose is to transfer force from expanding gas in the cylinder to the crankshaft through a piston rod and or connecting rod

Piston Anatomy

A piston is a cylindrical engine component that slides back and forth in the cylinder bore by forces produced during the combustion process. The piston acts as a movable end of the combustion chamber. The stationary end of the combustion chamber is the cylinder head.

Piston Components

ATV Piston components include the piston head, piston pin bore, piston pin, skirt, ring grooves, ring lands, and piston rings. The piston head is the top surface of the piston which is subjected to tremendous forces and heat during normal engine operation

NICHE GASKET

A gasket is a mechanical seal which fills the space between two or more mating surfaces, generally to prevent leakage from or into the joined objects while under compression.

Some Types of Gaskets:

  • Head gaskets create a seal between the engine block and cylinder head. This seal establishes a proper compression and prevents fluid leaks into the cylinders
  • Base gaskets create a seal between the top-end of your engine and the engine cases. Stop pesky engine oil leaks before they cause permanent damage to your engine.
  • The valve cover is sealed to the upper section of the engine cylinder head by a valve cover gasket. As it passes around the camshafts, rockers, and valves, the gasket stops engine oil from seeping out.

Used this on my drz worked great the biggest issue I ran into is the piston wrist pin absolutely would not slide in without beating it in with a hammer so I ended up reusing my old one that slid right in, piston casting does not seem that great but it works

Wrist pun came bent and didn’t fit right. Base gasket didn’t fit no matter how hard I tried. Cylinder and piston including wrist pin look to be manufactured decent

Bought and installed this kit in January. I did upgrade the piston to a Namura, just because and it all fit perfectly. Seven months and many miles later, it's still going strong and uses no oil, to speak of. Very happy, especially for the $$$.

Put this in a 04 ltz 400. The old top end had low compression so I decided to go with this big bore kit. So far so good have about 30 hours on it since instal. Quad runs great and has lots of power.

Although initial appearance looks very good when installed would not seal and leaked between cylinder and block also between head and cylinder head was resurfaced so it's 100% straight so I torqued the head bolts down to 44 ft lb and got the coolant leak to somewhat stop seems to be fixed now although bolts are 10 lb over spec

gasket kit was very hard to put on on the block. no instructions found in or on the website for the install. oil rings were the most difficult to put in place but enough fiddling got em in. other resources did help with the install. all in all good buy for the price and looking forward to finish the break in to go for a proper ride.

Installed and broken in. Everything measured out. It was missing the circlips, but they sent an entire replacement piston kit to compensate. Bike runs flat out with good compression so far. I'll update if anything changes.

I personally don't trust the piston to hold up to my rough riding style but the cylinder looks to be really good. Can't beat $150 for a bore kit that comes with gaskets piston and the cylinder.

So far I am very impressed. This kit made a huge difference in punch in all the rpm range. My kit was very easy to install. I used a page with a title like “Lazy big bore install”. I honestly had nothing to lose because my bike was burning tremendous amounts of oil before the install. I spent lots of time doing research about the other name brand kits. The same kit selling for 600 now sold for 180 back 10 years ago. I rolled the dice and to be honest I am so please. Would absolutely buy again.I did not install the compression release on my SM but after trying to kick it without that I feel like I am going to install it.
