Great Blue pipe joint compound has all the benefits of a PTFE based thread sealant without the mess. Great Blue is a flexible, Blue, No hardening, nonseparation, nontoxic, paste that has no odor and cleans up easily. Use on PVC, CPVC, ABS, polyethylene, polypropylene, iron, steel, copper, or brass threads up to and including 2". Withstands up to 3000 p.S.I. On gases from -50 deg. F. To 400 deg. F. And 10, 000 p.S.I. On liquids from -50 deg. F. To 500 deg. F. Abs, Cycolac, Natural Gas, steam, air lines, caustics, and diluted acids.

I used this product on PVC to PVC threads and PVC to brass threads, and all the joints leaked under 50lbs of water pressure. A lot of extra work to clean up the oily mess. Replaced the blue compound with teflon tape, no more leaks. The can of Oatey 31261 Blue Pipe Joint Compound went into the trash.

I always use some sort of thread joint compound when I use Teflon tape. It proves to be a reliable sealant that is easily removed. It also makes plumbing joints easy to unscrew in the future. This thread sealant came in a small plastic container that was sealed in a plastic bag to prevent leakage in shipping. When I removed the container from the bag, there appeared to be a small amount of oily leakage from the container which I dried with a paper towel. There is a small applicator brush integral to the cover. Since the service rating includes hot water, I used it to seal the threads on a new water heater anode rod that had been wrapped with Teflon tape. After gently tightening the threads on the new rod, I checked for leaks. There were none. Mission accomplished. While I used this compound on metal fitting threads, it should be useful for PVC screw on fittings, too. The compound is a bit oily, and that probably explains why it does not dry out and harden after application.

Versatile product that works well to seal pipe connections. Be sure to mix well before using as it separates and will be too oily and thin. It does take a while to fully cure but it's easy to use and easy clean up.

Container was open when I received it! Need to tape the applicator lid on or design a more secure lid!

Fitting with teflon tape began to leak. I tried using teflon tape again to no avail. The joint compound did the trick.
