Easy to set up and seems good, hoping that the water is not added until 3 days prior to hatching.

No bells and whistles but we just hatched five out of five healthy chicks with it, 21 days on the mark. The setup is pretty straightforward though the instructions were bare bones and generic enough to cover other offerings from the brand. This particular incubator has a clear plastic dome to see the chicks, a water reservoir tray, a grid shelf over the water, a containment rotating tray, a heater/fan, a mini gravity water tank with tubing and a digital display. I never could figure out what the digital displays two temperature readings meant--the screen alternated between 99 and 100. Occasionally when I opened the dome, the temp would drop to 98, so presumably, one was the actual temp and one was the set temp? I set the display to 100 with the up arrow. The directions didn't say what the setting/gear button did or how to use it. I was so afraid of going too high, I let it be. We didn't have an additional thermometer but it felt warm not hot inside. As someone who lives in the desert and regularly experiences 100 degree days, I just went with my gut. The tray rotated every two hours and on day 18 I removed it and let the eggs be. Next time I would probably put a bit of paper towel under them as they rolled around a lot with no separator. But candling at 8 and 16 days looked good, so we kept going, and on the morning of day 21 we had our first hatch. Two had pipped the night before and the other three pipped on day 21 then hatched over the course of the day with the last out by bedtime. There was room for six eggs though we only hatched five. Because there was so much time between eggs hatching we took out chicks when they were basically dry and moved them to the brooder box--this kept them from rampaging over and around the new wet chicks and still unhatched eggs. We read a little boisterous bumping around is just fine but one chick was like Godzilla in there, tromping and stamping, so we moved her/him along to the heat lamp box with good results. The last two chicks were on the smaller/weaker side so we left them in the incubator overnight to rest and not get squished by their older siblings and that really helped them recuperate. The humidity level though not measured looked just right--condensation only built up once the eggs were actually hatching. The gravity-filler is a little hard to figure out--I used the styrofoam padding to raise it up on a tray adjacent to the incubator to provide good flow--it's important the tube isn't kinked. The water level has to get quite low before it refills so sometimes I just helped it along. If you're just hatching a small batch and looking for a budget-friendly easy-to-clean option this definitely worked for us. The chicks were easy to see through the clear plastic and the whole unit took up very little space. The dome is a very fussy fit--make sure you have run your fingers all the way around the seam and pressed and wiggled until there is a perfect seal or you will lose temp and humidity. Will use again though! You can see our adult hen meeting the chicks through the dome--she wasn't broody enough to sit on the eggs herself but she's very interested in the progress and being introduced with supervision.

It does spin on its own but I had to test it to find that out. You should edit your instruction manual and remove the part where is says rotate eggs manually as it's confusing.

I got this incubator for chicken eggs as I raise my own sometimes. I really liked that the incubator was already assembled and I only had to fill up the water bottle and connect that and the power cord. The incubator includes a water bottle to add water so you don't have to open it. Which is good, because it fits snug and sometimes it takes several seconds to get the lid on right. I also like the clear design of the dome so I can see the eggs.I always do a test run on a new incubator before I risk good eggs. I marked the top of the test egg with an X so I could tell if the eggs were properly repositioned. The X went from on top, down the side, and on the bottom and was coming back up the other side by 24 hours. The incubator took a couple hours to get up to 100 and it held that temperature every time I checked it so that's another plus. I didn't see the temperature fluctuations like a different incubator I have. The Styrofoam packing seemed to help with keeping the temperature steady, so don't toss it and make sure to put it on when you use the incubator. Both parts of the incubator are thick and sturdy and the packing styrofoam has cutouts so you can read the screen on top, watch your eggs, and see what is going on inside. They even include a foam square to set the water bottle and its stand on in case you need more water going in.The only negative, and the reason for 4 stars, is the lack of a humidity sensor. I missed that when I got this incubator or I wouldn't have got it. Unfortunately, there's no good way to test the humidity because there's no place to put a test thing in the incubator. If the manufacturer could add a humidity sensor, this would be a great incubator.Cleanup went quickly, I just rinsed and let it air dry on the counter. Everything fits inside the incubator itself and the styrofoam protects it. I really like how well designed this incubator is.
