Every Fridge but side by side

Will it work on my refrigerator?

The Fridge Fixer will work on full-size residential refrigerators with French Door, Top Freezer, or Bottom Freezer Configurations. It will not work on Side-by-Side models. The Fridge Fixer does require a minimum 0.6" horizontal gap between the refrigerator and freezer doors.

A Few Things to Mention:

  • The Fridge Fixer contains plastic and metal parts. Some of the plastic parts are fabricated on 3-D Printers, so the 3-D printed parts do have a slight "grain."
  • The 3-D Printed parts are strong but not "unbreakable." They are very durable and should perform as designed under reasonable conditions.
  • We stand behind our designs. If you do have a problem, please get in touch with us.
  • Pictures and instructions may show the Fridge Fixer's plastic parts in multiple colors. This is done for clarity on the illustrations. All the Fridge Fixer's plastic parts are black in color.
  • The model numbers listed are the leftmost characters of the refrigerator model number. Your model number will likely have additional characters, but those extra characters should not affect your Fridge Fixer. If the leftmost characters of your model number match the model listed, you found your match.
  • The Fridge Fixer mounts in the gap between the refrigerator and freezer doors. If there are any obstructions in this gap, it can interfere with the Fridge Fixer operation. Check your door gap for obstructions and check the undersides of the doors for anything that will interfere.
  • If you find an obstruction, please check to see if it can be removed (like a previous locking device). If it cannot be removed, please get in touch with us to see if we have a product that will work for your refrigerator.
  • Check to see that your refrigerator and freezer doors are flush when closed. If the freezer sticks out a significant distance from the refrigerator, please measure that offset so we can accommodate it.

History of the Fridge Fixer

We are avid RV'ers and frequently go out on long cross-country adventures ever since buying our coach several years ago. But, one particular problem kept plaguing us - the residential refrigerator kept opening while we were driving. When this happened, everything would start dumping out on the floor. In addition to the huge mess this creates, it was also a huge distraction while driving. If the refrigerator spilled at the wrong time, it could lead to a tragic driving accident.

As bad as this problem is when driving a coach, it is an even bigger issue if you have a trailer with residential appliances. When pulling a trailer, you will know if your refrigerator spilled until you arrive at your destination - sometimes days later. In addition to the mess, the entire fridge and freezer contents can be spoiled.

Residential refrigerators are commonly installed in recreational vehicles, and for good reason. They have high capacities, are comparatively inexpensive, and are attractive. But residential appliances were never meant to be used in moving vehicles. Several devices are out there to keep the doors shut, but most require drilling into the refrigerator and are cumbersome to engage/disengage.

Our RV shipped with a bungee cord wrapped around the refrigerator door handles. It usually worked when the fridge was empty but failed miserably once it was loaded with food. In addition to the frequent fridge spills, our young kids had a difficult time with the bungee. Either they would lose control of the bungee trying to open the fridge - and get snapped in the face or would be unable to reconnect the bungee when they were finished. But, even with the bungee, the refrigerator kept opening. We needed to come up with something.

One significant advantage of cross-country driving is having much time to think. The result of this was the original Fridge Fixer prototype. This device worked as intended, but it was not ideal for manufacturing. Over the next year and countless prototypes later, the Fridge Fixer evolved into the family of devices being offered today.

This is one creative solution to a really tough problem. We have a residential refrigerator in out Tiffin. I kept wondering how to keep the French doors and refrigerator door all closed in transit. I searched the web and finally stumbled across this. It took maybe 15 minutes to install after looking at the device and watching the video tutorial. Kudos to a solved problem AND an entrepreneur! Well done!

This product works on our refrigerator. It was easy to install and our first camping trip was 1200 miles with no issues. My problem with it is the price. Other than the metal attachment straps, the unit is molded plastic. For the price, I feel the overall quality is lacking. Just my humble opinion.

The Fridge Fixer is one of the best things we ever bought for our RV. After losing food from our residential fridge/freezer in our fifth wheel not once, but twice, while on the road, we were skeptical about purchasing this product. To our pleasant surprise, it worked! Fantastic product!

**Update 07/27/2024After a 6,000 mile trip, and not a single door flying open, we continue to be thrilled with this simple little device. It’s worth every penny! At first I was skeptical about the price, but I have changed my mind. No, it doesn't look like much for the price, but after having the Fridge Fixer lock for our RV refrigerator for over 4 months, I think it is worth every penny. Our residential refrigerator used to fly open every time we took a turn to the right. I would have to leave the passenger seat in a panic and make my way to refrigerator to close the door, hoping nothing spilled when it flew open. This locking device keeps it closed. The installation was fairly easy and the magnetic piece stores on the side, out of sight while we are parked.

This fridge lock replaced the one that was delivered with our RV. You know the one - the little threaded rod with the plastic knob that’s too small to hold the fridge & freezer doors closed on the residential refrigerator. It was simple to install (no my husband didn’t “help”). I read the instructions, put it on & it’s been working well. Took a three-month trip up the west coast last year and the only time the fridge door opened was the time we forgot to put the block in place. Works great! I highly recommend this!

We've tried and had various other securement options for the residential refrigerator in our RV and none were ideal and some just didn't work or were a hassle to use. The fridge fixer is a simple solution that is incredibly easy to install and works quite well and doesn't get in the way like some other solutions do.Customer service from the company is way above average as well. I had some questions regarding the product after installation, so I sent an email to the company. I received a response back in a couple hours from a real person with a real solution on a Sunday evening. Something that is quite hard to come by nowadays. I'll be recommending this product other RVers I know.Great product!

Our new RV didn't have a locking fridge and it fell open more than once on our maiden voyage. I was not confident that this would work, as it is so small and low-profile. It was easy to install- took 20 minutes. It has worked perfectly. The fridge doors don't even budge. It has felt on the back to not scratch. It's easy to use and not obnoxious to look at. Worth every penny.

I came across the Fridge Fixer on the internet the other day, and I'm so glad I did! For years, I've been using Velcro straps to secure my fridge doors on the road. While this solution worked, it was really cumbersome if we needed to get something out while on the road. Plus, the straps had to be done a specific way, and I never trusted my passengers to do them properly.I got my FF yesterday from Amazon and installed it this morning. Installation was a breeze, and I'm happy to say it works perfectly on my fridge. I have a Kenmore Elite model which wasn't on the "approved" list on their website, but I took measurements before ordering (which I recommend doing), and figured I'd take a chance.I wish I'd found this solution sooner. Their design is pretty ingenious. It's really cool too that the locking block is magnetic, so it's easy to store when not in use. My fridge doors are non-magnetic, but it does stick to the side of the fridge.I think every RV manufacturer with residential refrigerators should install one of these before they sell them. To any RV-ers out there with residential refrigerators, I highly recommend trying the Fridge Fixer!
