Manufacturer changed LEDs from discretes to more efficient surface mount chips. Current draw @ 12v = 32 ma. versus 66 ma. for old.Even though drawing half the current, the new surface mount LEDs brightness is slightly higher by about a tenth of a ƒ stop, measured at the case face with a flat diffuser on light meter.

Ordered these light as we were rewiring a trailer front to back. Figured might as well replace the standard factory light with new LEDs. Less draw on the wiring and electrical system as well. Ordered with the grommets as well since trailer was 12yrs old and current grommets were hard and brittle. Popped the grommets in just as the factory version. Fitted into place and installed lights. What a difference a few lights make! Just make sure you seat grommet all the way in before installing light or they will fall out. Led's are much brighter and even look better than the new trailers that come equipped with LEDs. Factory new are 2.5" but only one single diode in the center for lighting. They work, but we like a few more diodes on our lights. Easier to see at night with maximum lighting. Amber and red look great. Just make sure to get those pesky grommets with your lights!

Holy cow these things are bright. I replaced all the 2 inch lights on my 06 western star with these. It literally lights up the other side if the highway with them. Picture is for comparison. The passenger side is the old lights. (UPDATE) Five years later and I'm kind of torn on these. When first installed they were great and very bright. I have 38 of them on my truck. Out of those 38 I have to replace 32 of them. 10 do not work at all and the other 22 have over half the diodes not burning. When I originally purchased they were very inexpensive but now the price has more than doubled. At the price I originally bought them I would say they are worth it but at the current price I would expect better quality.
