About Planet Bike
In November 1996, Planet Bike was founded in Madison, WI. In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment that dedicated itself to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment.

Despite being a simple machine, the people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose which seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25% of company profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact.

Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high-quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, the company strives to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company's short 10-year history, it has made important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the four-line computer which is now a standard in the industry and the world's first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that 10 years ago started as a one-man operation. Today, while still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve its product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike's financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled $500,000. By 2010, they have made a goal to donate $1 million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists.

I really like this light. Not as streamed-lined as the super flash, but with its time proven design it is a winner. It is easy to use, the large mirrored reflector is a nice plus.

I don't bike frequently at night right now due the summer light lasting well into the evening, but nights that I have used it it's served its purpose well. It has three settings: OFF, STEADY ON, BLINKY ON. I use the blink setting as I think it's a better mechanism to alert drivers you're there. I haven't been hit yet and someone who followed me with it on said he could see it a very good distance away. I like that it came pre-assembled right out of the box, I simply pressed the back button, clipped it to my bike, and off I went. It also includes a seat post mount, but I sometimes use a trunk so I just use the clip. The clip is night and firm so I don't have the fear of it bouncing off. Also may try to secure it to my helmet or clothing if need be, or on another bike with no other mounting option. In the end: bright, easy to see, multi-settings, battery included...what more could you want? The only reason I give it four stars is the instructions it came with to mount to the bike may be hard for some to use, and I can't seem to slide off the clip bracket to even mount it to the bike. But, it serves my purposes perfectly and I haven't tried too hard to get the mount off.

I found out about this brand when I almost literally stumbled across their 2watt LED headlight while walking. It was on the side of the road and had exploded - like an exploded diagram. Literally the thing had come apart in pieces and all of them were sitting in this tidy little line. I grabbed it all up, took it home, hit the one broken connection with solder, and everything just "snapped" back together. I then contacted the company to say I was impressed, and they told me they are so in favor of their stuff being non-disposable that if you're willing to fix it, they pay the shipping for parts. Not sure how much difference that makes in our throwaway world, but I appreciate the gesture. On to this light in particular, well I figured I (actually my wife) now needed a tail light to go with the headlight, and this was the natural choice. Lightweight, seems sturdy (my wife just clips hers to her seatbag, and it doesn't seem to mind the jostling). It is very bright - bright enough for even the brightest daylight use - and that's because the fairly bright LED's are focused through extremely tight lenses - just a couple degrees of arc in any direction it would seem (in fact, this makes for a nice little spot-flashlight that won't ruin your night vision!).So, that focus is good and bad. Drivers directly behind you can see you for a long way off, but drivers off to the side won't really see much - also if the light isn't pointing perfectly backward, then it won't be doing its job. Point being: If you really want to light yourself (or a kid) up, you might want to look for a light that has more LED's and has some of the LED's pointed out to the sides a bit. If you just want to let people behind you know where you are, however, then this is an inexpensive, tough, small, lightweight and battery-thrifty little unit that gets the job done.I just ordered another.

This little puppy is easy to love. The top priority for a bike rider is to be seen by car drivers, for your own safety, and this light really does it's job well! I use it both day and night, and someone would have to be either blind, negligent, or impaired to not see you when using this little light. With 3 LED's I wasn't expecting that much, just a basic light. Was I ever surprised! If I bought a lot of these I could make my own private airstrip and would be able to safely land a plane at night with only these lights lighting the flight line. It really is that bright.Don't make the mistake I did when I looked directly into the LED's for barely a second after turning it on for the first time (included batteries is a nice touch). I was seeing spots all over for the next hour! Once again, it really is that bright. But even with a very bright light like this one on your six, don't become over-confident or complacent and think that every driver will see you just because of this bright little wonder. This light certainly adds to your safety, but nothing will ever account for an inattentive or impaired driver still not seeing you, so make your safety your top priority and responsibility. No one will watch out for you like you will.Amazon sent this separately from other items in my order, but it still arrived when the other items did, so my daily/nightly bike rides were not interrupted. As always, Amazon was very quick is processing my order and shipping my purchases. The packing is first rate, and I have never received anything from Amazon that was damaged in shipping due to poor packing, but there's always a first time for someone to drop a box with my stuff in the warehouse, then drive a forklift over it!
