They come with two mandrels to cover most engines, and are ordinarily used with a digital or mechanical weighing scale. These balancers can measure both the big-end and small-end weight of the connecting rod.

Very well made product. I have seen on youtube videos a lot of people using this same brand. However the biggest problem is finding well made, inexpensive, accurate digital scale that is repeatable in it's readings .

Overall, a great tool for anyone performing a lot of machinist work on their own for an engine rebuild; especially if you're not using new replacement aftermarket parts that have already undergone balancing work. The bearing inside the balancer itself is slightly off track (not level), causing any rod being placed on it to not measure correctly, since the rod bushing isn't fully resting on the rollers of the balancer (since it's off level). I had to press the balancer arm at the bearing, to where it would "level out". Pretty disappointing given one spends over $200 on essentially, aluminium slate with a SS pole and a measuring arm with a bearing on it (simple design). You'd to think they'd get this small yet crucial component right during the manufacturing process, and also check over it during QA (such as actually testing balancing with the device once its built). Highly doubt they did, most likely another cheap Chinese manufactured product that breezed through QA/QC before being sold here.

If you are really into engine building, this works well.

I will require finding a machinist to make up some bushings to fit the piston end of rod to get it balanced correctly.

For the builder who is going to do the details himself.

The balancer works fine, however the bearing in the linkage is a little on the stiff side. The bearing and linkage is supposed to eliminate side to side loads but isn't free enough to do so very effectively. This could just be my particular linkage. If you are overly concerned with the side loads not making your measurements repeatable, you can easily replace the linkage with a better bearing or a hanging chain style.
