The TS-1655 comes with four UDIMM DDR4 slots (8 GB preinstalled) that can be upgraded to 128 GB for higher workloads. Error-Correcting Code memory is also supported to deliver server-grade performance and reliability for rugged enterprise IT environments as a cost-efficient NAS solution.

Put drives in all the slots, Upgraded memory to 32gb. formatted drives and populated them with 36 tb of data. Bought two NVMe Samsung 2tb modules and put them in the slots inside. Unit will not load system so it essentially will not boot. Took them out, verified functionality, and yes they are good. . When I took all the drives out it boots from NVMe, but when they are in it doesn't. Tech support wanted me to try this and try that but I am not their guinea pig so I told them no. This is a good option as long as you do not intend on putting NVMe inside the box. Probably a linux kernel issue with boot priority

I've been working with ZFS since shortly after it came out, and I'm still working with the modern versions of it. The ZFS used by QNAP is at least 5-10 years behind the current version, with a few QNAP-specific features tacked on. If you don't need/want the performance, features or reliability of a modern ZFS, this should work well for you. If you need/want them, this isn't the right appliance for you.Moving beyond the software, the hardware is very picky about upgrades. Add them one at a time and you should be fine. Finally, the "quality" of the so-called "Technical Support" staff is poor, lowering the already low rating by another star.

Don't let the fact that this only has an atom processor put you off.I hammer this thing with terabytes of data every day and have never had a crash or a glitch.I wish all 16 bays could be 3.5 inch for a huge volume. But at least there are expansion options.

The TS-1655 is a beast of a NAS. It handles all of my workloads great. I even installed a 2x M.2 expansion card into it. I have the OS installed on the internal M.2 SSDs, which helps to make the OS very snappy and responsive.
