These shakers are awesome. I love these much better than the ones that are attached by rubber bands. These twist together nicely and are durable. I’ve been using them for my hand percussion gigs and have been really pleased with these shakers.

These shakers are exceptionally bright (i.e., trebly), so they've got some cut. That can be useful in a live acoustic setting when you may not have the luxury of amplification. That said, I like something with a bit more warmth to it (think LP or Meinl).One thing these do have going for them over egg-shaped shakers is that they're less prone to rolling away and getting lost, especially if you use the clamp to keep them paired. They can also be angled so you get different sounds and textures when using them paired, which is potentially useful. I don't know that these would be my first choice, but for the cost I can't say I'm disappointed either.
