Function and Instructions for Use

Speed ​​control mode (SV):

  • 1. External potentiometer for speed regulation: connect the two fixed ends of the potentiometer to the "+5V" and "GND" of the "control" terminal of the controller respectively, and connect the adjustment end to "SV". 10K–100K.
  • 2. External power supply speed regulation: connect the negative pole of the external power supply to "GND", the positive pole to "SV", and the voltage is 10V.

Forward/reverse control of the motor (F/R):

  • The direction of the motor is controlled by a toggle switch. In order to avoid damage to the controller, when changing the direction of the motor, the motor should be stopped before changing the direction, so as to avoid the operation of the motor in the running direction.

Enable switch (EN):

  • By controlling the on and off of terminals "EN" and "GND", the braking and stopping of the motor can be controlled.

Alarm fault (ALM)

  • When overvoltage or overcurrent occurs inside the controller, the controller enters the protection state, the controller will automatically stop working, the motor will stop running, the ALM will output a 5V high-level signal, and the red light on the controller will continue to flash. If this fault occurs, please check Whether the wiring is normal, whether the power supply voltage is normal, etc., whether the motor load is abnormal, etc.

Motor speed signal output (PG)

  • The controller provides the customer with a pulse signal proportional to the motor speed through the terminal "PG", and the pulse amplitude is 5V.
  • Speed ​​= pulse frequency ÷ number of motor pairs × 60 (seconds);
  • Example: a 4-pole motor, the pulse signal is 50Hz, then its speed is: 50÷4×60=750(RPM)

  • HU, HV, HW, V+: Motor Hall signal. It is necessary to correctly connect the controller terminals and the corresponding wires of the motor. Wrong connection will lead to abnormal operation of the motor, wrong power connection and even damage to the controller and the motor. The Hall signal power supply shall not be used for other purposes other than those described in the manual.
  • U, V, W: Correspondingly connected with the motor wire. Wrong connection will cause abnormal operation of the motor, or even damage the controller and motor.
  • +: DC input
  • -: ground wire
  • RUN/ALM: Green light power light, turns on when power is on; red status light, flashes twice during standby, and keeps flashing during alarm.

Definition of Terminals

  • SV: 1) The wiring position of the middle terminal of the speed regulating potentiometer is used for speed regulation; 2) The positive wiring position of the external 10V is used for speed regulation.
  • ALM: Alarm signal interface, the other end is connected to GND
  • PG: Speed signal interface, the other end is connected to GND

  • EN: switch port, the other end is connected to GND
  • +5V: The actual output voltage is 10V
  • GND: ground wire
  • EN (Side): Switch the machine on and off. Note: It cannot be used with EN of the terminal block at the same time
  • F/R (side): forward and reverse

Alarm keeps flashing:

  1. Check whether the power supply voltage is normal and whether it is under-voltage protection caused by the low voltage.
  2. Check whether the motor load is overcurrent protection caused by too high.
  3. Check whether there is a short circuit or open circuit in the phase line;
  4. Check whether the Hall wire is short-circuited or short-circuited.

Fault phenomenon and analysis

Motor does not turn:

  • Check whether the power supply is normal.
  • Check whether the wiring of the motor wire and the Hall wire is firm and correct.
  • Whether the wiring of the potentiometer is correct and rotated to the correct position.
Motor is slow, fast, or vibrating:

  • Check whether the voltage is normal.
  • Check whether the phase of the Hall is correct, the phase of the Hall is easy to be wrongly connected, and the inspection should be careful.

Seems good so far and runs at low speeds pretty well, quiet and strong. One warning, the power supply has a 110v/220v switch on the side, mine was set at 220v, the motor still ran but was lower rpm, after switching to 110v, I seem to get full speed

Added this to my 1318 mill, works great and easily is integrated either MakerBase board via a $7 PWM to 0-10v board. Very low runout. And has the power to drive 1/4" bits through wood or 1/8" through light metals easily.

I received the new spindle assembly on 11-14-24. It looked basically ok, but the end cap on the motor looked slightly crooked to me, so I verified that it was angled by several degrees and then removed the end cap to inspect it.I found that the barrel outer casing of the motor had an edge that had been peened around the entire diameter. Possibly from beind dropped during manufacture. The end cap is intended to slip over this lip, so that a machined surface inside of the end cap would rest on the barrel of the motor. This it could not do. Instead, the end cap rested on this peened surface, and just ended up where it ended up. This end cap centers the motor shaft bearing, so the cocked end cap also cocked the bearing. I hand filed the protruding edge on the barrel so that the end cap could slip over it and seat properly. This allowed the bearing to seat properly.Once reassembled, I verified that the end cap mounting was true and found tbat the motor shaft now turned much more easily.I noted that the inside of the end cap had multiple raised casting burs that were sharp and were in close proximity to the tops of the motor coil windings. These burs were turned down on a lathe for safety.After reassembly, I connected the ESC and power supply, and they worked perfectly. Although not prewired, I tested the reverse function on the ESC, and it also worked perfectly.I am rating this product 4 out of 5 because the design is good and it met my needs, *but* the manufacturing flaws were hard to ignore. If you do not have the skills to deal with this sort of thing, then I recommend that you purchase a more expensive unit elsewhere that has been vetted.

It was a great price and was easy install. The only thing is I'm not sure of the actual spindle speed it seems slower. It's super quite and that's a big plus. Will update a few months in.

Everything worked well until 2 days after the 90 day warranty expired the power supply quit. The spindle motor was quite with very low noise. You would think the power supply would have overload or fused protection.

Great motor, runout is excellent. Including this photo in case anyone finds it helpful.It's important to note: there are no instructions in the box, no fully wired photos on the listing, no step by step guide or even color coded labels to connect the components together. Although the seller has published detailed specifications, the reviews actually contain more useful instructions in terms of assembly.This kit should probably include a solid state relay to more easily upgrade an existing machine and not have to worry about the spindle running infinitely after a job completes.
