1. Newly designed, high-resolution GR lens The RICOH GR IIIx incorporates a newly developed 26.1mm F2.8 GR lens, which harmonizes exceptional image quality with a slim design. Unlike past GR-series models which featured a 28mm wide angle of view for exaggerated perspective, this lens provides a 40mm standard angle of view in the 35mm format, delivering images with a more natural perspective and a more truthful sense of depth for a completely different type of street photography. The newly designed optics incorporates two aspherical optical elements at most effective positions to reduce distortion and chromatic aberration to a minimum, while effectively minimizing the generation of flare and ghost images when shooting against backlight. In macro photography, the camera allows the user to move in on a subject to as close as 12 centimeters from the lens front end. Coupled with the standard focal length, it captures close-up images with a natural perspective, set against a beautifully defocused background. It also comes equipped with an ND (Neutral Density) filter, which closes the aperture down by two stops to capture high-contrast, high-resolution images with a variety of scenes and subjects and under varying shooting conditions. Its nine-blade diaphragm mechanism creates a natural bokeh (defocus) effect and a truthful sense of depth at open and larger apertures, while capturing beautiful light beams at closed-down apertures. 2. High-quality, high-resolution images The GR IIIx incorporates a large APS-C-format CMOS image sensor with an anti-aliasing (AA) filter-less design and a newly developed GR ENGINE 6 imaging engine to optimize its image resolving power. With approximately 24.24 effective megapixels, this image sensor assures super-high-resolution images rich in gradation. It is also compatible with multi-tone 14-bit RAW image recording. The camera also features the RICOH-original accelerator unit designed to optimize the image data delivered by the image sensor, and provides a top sensitivity of ISO 102400 for super-high-sensitivity photography. 3. Hybrid AF system for high-speed, high-precision autofocus operation The GR IIIx features a hybrid AF system combining a contrast-type AF mechanism superior in focusing precision with a phase-detection-type AF mechanism assuring high-speed focusing operation. During autofocus shooting, this AF system detects the subject’s face or eye with precision, focuses on it, and indicates the in-focus position on the LCD display using the AF frame. When the camera detects multiple faces, it automatically distinguishes the main subject from secondary ones and indicates this on the focus frame. Photographers can also change the main subject with simple touch-screen operation. A firmware upgrade for the RICOH GR III will be provided soon. GR III users are advised to update the camera’s firmware to use this function. 4. RICOH-original SR mechanism. Three-axis, four-step shake reduction: The RICOH-original SR (Shake Reduction) mechanism means that the GR IIIx effectively compensates for camera shake at the time of shutter release. The three-axis mechanism minimizes the adverse effects of camera shakecaused by pitch, yaw and roll by as much as four shutter steps. Since the SR mechanism shifts the image sensor to the ideal position horizontally and vertically, the camera lets the user take advantage of the Auto Horizon Correction function to effortlessly optimize image composition. Measured in conformity with CIPA standards. RICOH-original AA Filter Simulator: By applying microscopic vibrations with sub-pixel precision to the image sensor unit during exposure, the camera’s AA (anti-aliasing) Filter Simulator provides the same level of moiré reduction as an optical AA filter. This innovative simulator allows the user not only to switch the AA filter effect on and off, but also to adjust the effect to the level best suited for a given subject. This function is available at shutter speeds slower than 1/1000 second. 5. Compact, lightweight design Despite the incorporation of the large APS-C-format image sensor and the newly developed optics with a longer focal length, the GR IIIx is designed to be extremely compact, functional and portable, in keeping with the GR-series concept of the camera as a pocketable imaging tool or a handy picture-taking tool. It also provides a host of user-friendly features — such as a short start-up time of approximately 0.8 seconds, control dials conveniently positioned next to the four-way controller, and effortless touch-screen operation — to enhance operability and allow the user to swiftly react to once-in-a-lifetime shutter opportunities. The exterior frame is made of highly rigid magnesium alloy to improve dependability and durability while being carried or stored. 6. High-definition LCD monitor with intuitive touch-screen operation The GR IIIx features a 3.0-inch high-definition LCD monitor with approximately 1,037,000 dots. Its touch-screen operation provides swift, intuitive control of various camera functions, such as AF frame shift, menu selection, and image advance/magnification during playback. It also features an air gapless construction, in which special resin is inserted between the LCD touchscreen monitor and a protective cover made of reinforced glass, to effectively reduce the reflection and dispersion of light for improved visibility. The Outdoor View Setting allows the user to instantly adjust the monitor’s brightness to the desired level for greater visibility in difficult lighting conditions. 7. Image Control function to produce desired visual effects The GR IIIx features a creative Image Control function, which integrates effect modes into conventional image setting operations. Using 11 basic Image Control modes, the user can easily adjust various parameters, such as saturation, hue, key, contrast and graininess, to the desired level and create their preferred finishing touch. A set of adjusted parameters can be added as a custom setting to the Image Control function menu. 8. Advanced image editing The GR IIIx provides in-body RAW-data development, while allowing the user to edit a captured image as desired by adjusting such parameters as recoding size, aspect ratio, white balance,Image Control setting, and exposure compensation factor, all without the need of a PC. Since the camera reduces the time required for preview after the user adjusts the parameters of RAW-format images, it enhances the speed of in-body RAW-data development. The camera also lets the user retain the adjusted parameters after the initial RAW-data development is completed, making it possible to make minute re-adjustment of the already-developed image with greater efficiency. The camera’s image quality adjustment function for JPEG images is also upgraded: a newly added monochrome mode allows more minute adjustment of parameters in full-color images, such as filter effect, toning, contrast and sharpness, to create monochrome images with the desired finishing touches. The camera also provides such creative tools as a choice of aspect ratio (16:9 or 4:3) and image rotation in 0.1-degree steps to facilitate the image editing process. A firmware upgrade for the RICOH GR III will be provided soon. GR III users are advised to update the camera’s firmware to use these tools. 9. Bluetooth and wireless LAN dual communication The GR IIIx provides wireless LAN functions for easy pairing with mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. By installing the dedicated Image Sync application, the user can transfer captured images to a mobile device, display a Live-View image on the device’s monitor, change various settings remotely, release the shutter from a distance, and even upload captured images to various social media with ease. Even when the camera’s power is turned off, the user can browse and download the images stored on the camera to a mobile device. The user can also send a mobile device’s location data to the camera, and record the data on captured images. The Auto Resize function, which automatically reduces the image size before transmitting an image to a mobile device, also helps improve the camera’s operability. A firmware upgrade for the RICOH GR III will be provided soon. GR III users are advised to update the camera’s firmware to use this function. 10. Other features 1. Full HD movie recording (1920 x 1080 pixels, 60 frame rate) in the H-264 recording format 2. New DOF Priority (Deep) added to the program line to prioritize the closed aperture setting 3. Color Moiré Correction function to reduce the effect of moiré during playback 4. Interval Composite mode, effective in capturing landscapes with traces of the moon and stars 5. Electronic Level to check the camera’s inclination 6. GT-2 Tele Conversion Lens (optional) to extend the focal length to approx. 75mm telephoto in the 35mm format, usable in combination with the camera’s auto detection and crop functions 7. Compatibility with accessory flash units designed for use with PENTAX digital SLR cameras. A firmware upgrade for the RICOH GR III will be provided soon. GR III users are advised to update the camera’s firmware to use this program. The GA-2 Lens Adapter — an optional accessory designed exclusively for the GR IIIx — is required to install this lens on the GR IIIx. Compatible accessory flash units are: AF540FGZ II, AF360FGZ II, AF540FGZ, AF360FGZ, AF201FG and AF200FG

The only complaint is its focus speed is very slow. Also doesn’t work very well at low light. When the light is good, it’s a fantastic camera.

As a creative, the best camera is what you have on you. And it just so happens that this is the best camera that you will take with you all the time. The small size is ideal for travel and every day carry. Image quality is top notch. Film simulations are beautiful and fun. Just know your limitations with this camera (slowish auto focus, no flash, sub par video, etc.). It is not perfect, but in the right hands it can take beautiful images. I came from the micro four thirds world primarily because I hate carrying around bulky dslrs with large lenses. This griiix is my new obsession. Battery life is not as bad as what I have heard, but in body charging and having spare batteries only helps.

I like the compact form factor and the quality of the images. I wanted to get into photography so I could document the interesting things I come across in my daily life and travels but didn’t want a large amount of equipment to hinder spontaneity. I’ve carried this camera in my back pocket up mountains and on my way to dinner or coffee with friends. My photography buddies are jealous of how easy I can pull it out and take a photo as well as the images this camera produces. 100% would buy again.

Ricoh Ricoh Ricoh. The gr3 is in a class of its own. I came from Fujifilm where the colors could not be compared to other brands. Fujifilm cameras are impossible to find and are insanely high on the used market. I kept seeing recommendations for the Ricoh and gave it a go.First off griii vs griiix. My favorite lens on my Fuji mirrorless camera was a 27mm. That’s close to a 40mm equivalent in full frame size; the same size as the griiix. The 40mm is wide enough to use indoors and up close. I really like it and would buy it again. I found myself cropping photos on my older compact camera. I still do with the Ricoh, but not as drastically. I’m able to retain a lot of detail and sharpness this way.Cons: battery life and low light noise. Battery life is junk. Buy 2+ extra batteries and a separate charger. The camera has high noise in dark environments. Shutter speed is good, but noise is high.Camera:I wanted a HIGH quality compact camera that can fit in a pocket. Phones nowadays have insanely good image quality. This takes photos that look more distinct with an added flair of quality. The lens is incredibly sharp. I saw many reviewers mention this and did not comprehend. I can take a photo of someone from 8ft away, zoom into their face, zoom into their glasses and see myself holding the camera. When I take pictures of pets, I can zoom in to see all the individual hairs. My older camera smoothed everything out and I never really noticed the lack of detail. I mainly got this for family photos. I’ll have one kid smiling and other making a face. The shape lens lets me zoom in and make a great photo out of an imperfect circumstance, redirecting the photo to the smiling person. My old camera had a lot of autofocus issues. I haven’t dug in too deep yet, but I’ve already found a sweet spot. I took pictures of my kids running up the hill, just a random point and shoot. They came out sharp and clear. Sometimes the autofocus doesn’t hit and that’s clear. My old camera would “lock on” and still miss this shot. This will hit if it locks on. I’d like to see eye recognition in this. With face, sometimes it grabs something in the background.Film simulationsI loved how my old cameras had built in film sims. Ricoh has them too. They are different and not necessarily copies of Fuji. There is a community of custom recipes. I immediately picked my favorites and have them saved as u1, u2, u3. You can save 6 total. If you want to dabble in this, I recommend taking screenshots of the recipes and adding in notes as you test them out. Some work great indoors while others only look normal outdoors in the sun. I generally aim to have a bold, regular and muted sim loaded.Dust: dust getting inside the camera is a big concern with Ricoh. I got the jjc stick on lens. For dusty dirty environments, I plan to use the filter adapter since that encompasses the moving lens. With that, the thinking is i can wear the Ricoh on my neck and not worry while being out all day. This camera is tiny. I can fit it in the front pocket of my shorts. I’d love to get a griii regular now too, but it’s not needed. It would be great though, just low on my list. I think this will be an indispensable item for many. You can easily bring it with you everywhere.

I was a little hesitant on spending that amount on a point and shoot but the very first set of photos I did had me grinning that I took the chance. The battery life is a little less than expected but that could have been due to the cold as well. Very user friendly camera, settings are easily changed and adapted and the image quality is great. The app and wireless connection isn't the best so I ended up just taking the card out for edits but in a pinch/in the field the wireless will work.

Im not a pro photographer. Im between a beginner and enthusiast. I need to photo for my hobby. This point and shoot SMALL camera has no on board flash. I have not needed a flash. I am no apature, shutter, iso or white balance master. But this camera makes it easier to understand and adjust. I may upload one of my photos later. The battery does not last long so carry 3 batteries charged. I do. There small. It uses larger sized SD cards 512G and larger. No real zoom. More on that below.Theres no on board EVF. Extra cost. Expensive.I have not had any issues needing EVF including outside. But the quality photos this little camera produces is nothing short of phenomenal!I can expand my photos to very large size with incredible sharpness and clarity. I would say this camera does not need zoom but i doubt moon craters would show in a moon shot.I now use this camera instead of reaching for my smart phone. Starts up QUICK!Not for video logging.I only wish it had 4k video. But it makes up for it for street and macro shots. Wow the macro shots are amazing. Buy it. Well worth the money for very least best pocket backup camera.

Images are sharp and of great quality. The boot time of the camera is really fast and the focus speed (with the latest firmware) is exceptional so you literally can’t miss a shot. They say that the best camera is the one that you carry with you. There is no excuse to not carrying this camera in a jacket pocket. Its smaller in length than my iPhone 12 mini.Only noticeable downside is that the battery doesn’t last very long (you get about 200 shots per charge). I bought a second battery to compensate. Battery fits in a coin pocket of jeans.

The photos online of this camera do not do it justice. It is small, sleek and has minimal branding. The photos suggest a cheap, plastic little point and shoot, which someone might mistake it for at a distance (Good! It doesn't draw attention). But, it's a magnesium alloy shell with high quality finishes. It feels solid, well made, and built to last. The photographs from this APS-C sensor are excellent in jpeg. Just as good as from a Fuji, Nikon, Canon or Sony with the same size sensor but in a far smaller body. The new 40mm lens is sharp. I like the automated cover for the lens when it is turned off/on so you don't need to handle a separate lens cap. The menu options are just as robust -perhaps even more so when it comes to snap focus- as other the other APS-C top players. This camera has countless menu options to configure it however you wish. I was debating between this or the Fuji X100v (I owned the original X100, loved it and still love Fuji X series cameras). I looked at an X100v at a store to confirm again it is not pocketable in a front jeans pocket, which this GR IIIx is. It's also light enough to carry in your front pocket all day. I really thought I would miss the EVF/viewfinder but the LCD achieves the same functionality albeit not close to your eye. This was my biggest concern but it actually makes it more discrete using the LCD screen rather than a viewfinder. The touch LCD can also be used to focus and trigger the shutter for greater discreteness either in Snap Focus or various standard AF/AE/Shutter modes. The app works as advertised but it's not ideal for moving large batches of RAW files so I just use a SD card reader with my laptop. The battery is one of its biggest knocks and it should be double the size, but it's good for a typical day of high volume shooting for most people without heavy use of offloading the photos via the app afterwards or constantly playing with menus. I just turn it off after every sequence of shots. I will still buy an additional battery and charging station for backup. In manual mode, I have it set to adjust the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO with one hand and three dials. Tip 1: the included wrist strap just needs to be knotted toward the bottom to make the opening a bit smaller for most people. Tip 2: A thumb grip is not necessary for most people and will make it less pocketable. There is a bump to rest your thumb by the playback button; just rest it at the inner joint of your thumb, not the top of your thumb, and it is a secure hold. Tip 3: definitely get glass tempered screen protectors. Ricoh, which also owns Pentax, is less well-known than the big players but is respected but its peers. This is definitely a mighty little one handed shooter. Very pleased with the GR IIIx.

The AF is pretty bad if it's remotely cloudy/dim. But man, when this thing nails focus it's incredibly sharp. It makes my Fuji x100F look like I was shooting through a mushed banana. It's a very clinical look compared the the X100F, but it really is something special. The X100F does have a wonderful lens with that old school glow but I usually shot at F2 and the plane of focus only looks sharp because everything else is out of focus. And that's ok! (sometimes). When the ricoh can actually focus on the subject - it takes a bit sometimes - it's wonderful. Granted I'm photographing moving kids, but it misses maybe 20 percent of the time. Which sucks. I was actually going to return it but then I took a good look at the images and decided to keep it. I think, for it's size, its the highest quality camera you can buy. The fuji maybe is a bit more fun to use but for candid pics it was a bit annoying to bring with on walks/hikes/etc. This fits in a shirt pocket and I don't even think about bringing it along.
