My 1993 (yikes) water heater wasn't working properly. The exhaust fan would kick on, the igniter would start glowing, i'd hear a couple click and then the igniter would shut off and the fan would run forever. No gas would ever flow to ignite and heat the water. I bought this, replaced mine with it and everything is fine now.

The requested part and pictured part was a Robertshaw Ignition Control module HS780 17NL-304A, the item shipped HS780 34PL-308A. While the modules are similar I am not willing to play substitution games with a device that controls combustible gas.If the modules are compatible they should have provided this detail on the web page prior to ordering.Return of the old part was flawless, I am very grateful for that.

This ignition module has been working flawlessly since installing it at the begining of (dec 2014). the resoning i took one star off was the terminal for the gas valve was smaller on the old module vs. it was the same size as the other terminals on the module. Not a big deal since i had terminals hanging down in my workshopthat fit the terminal on the new module, i simply cut the old one off , stripped the wire , crinped the new one on to the wire and i was good to go!

Replacing the defective module (~20 years old) with a new one solved my problem of the burner not igniting and the power vent just running on and on! I had actually planned to just replace the water heater and purchased a Sears model. But when the installation crew showed up and said they wanted an additional $450 (new water heater was already ~$1150- with installation) said "no thanks." I located this module on Amazon and figured it was worth the price to try it to see if it would sove the issue (I had replaced the original one ~20 years ago for a similar but not identical problem). Replacement/Installation was relatively easy, and so far (fingers still crossed) the problem is solved for "pittance" against the cost of a new water heater. I did have to "break" the bottom plastic housing for the "double" connection to fit (I then recalled I had to do the same thing 20 years ago) -- but other than that it was quick and easy.

I replaced my old ignition module with the new one I received and it solved my problem of my water heater not heating water. I appreciate receiving the new module within a few days.
