There are a pair of brackets that are supposed to fit inside the side that goes on the gate. They were too wide. But I was able to bend them to fit. But the tongue that should fit inside the latch plate completely DID NOT FIT and there was nothing that I could do to make it work. I spent a consider about of time trying to work with the product. But it's just poorly made. I returned it as defective. I ordered the Co-Line "Lockable 1-Way Livestock Gate Latch" and it worked just as it should.

Purchased this for my front gate. Heavy steel construction. Ability to lock the gate with a pad lock. Effortlessly locks as it swings shut.The only issue I have is when the weather dips below freezing. Condensation coats the lock and freezes the mechanism so I need a hammer to break it free if it freezes the night before.

I wish it was not cheaper but I loved the latch. It's a little tricky at first and you have to account for the offset. I had to retrofit a couple of gates and needed a spacer. You can't replace the quick access and the locking mechanism is very robust. The post will come down before the lock gives. I did not use the screws that came with it.

So, needless to say this one needed "help". UGH!! Where are the people that check the products before they leave the warehouse?? Seriously! So happy my husband is handy! If it wasn't for him working on these to get them to where we could actually USE them, they would have been returned!! Now that he FIXED them, they work great and I love them.
