I've tried several of 10GB to thunderbolt adapters, including the OWC one, and all of them disconnect intermittently. The Sabrent one is the only one I've tried to date that works continuously with no hiccups. It does get pretty hot (regardless of activity), but that does not seem to affect its performance. I am getting full 10 Gb speeds when copying large, multi-gigabyte files from my Synology NAS equipped with a 10Gb NIC and a large NVME read cache. Very happy with this item.

No pictures.I use this on both my Laptop and desktop on the Thunderbolt connections, I had to enable it on my (Dell) laptop before I could use it, also did install all driver on both machines first before connecting it. I recently added 5gb Fiber as my ISP has it and since my laptop only has the 1 Gb RJ45 LAN I did look into something affordable. This works like a charm on both machines so now I have another 'Toy' for my collection. It has a MARVELL chipset, same as my Desktop motherboards 10Gb LAN, which gives the same test results in speed and is seen as the same type card.SABRENT is a good brand and has (had) lot of bang for the buck.As is with all hobbies, don't need it, but wanted it. It gets HOT so beware.Still can and do recommend this 'Toy.

This is one SOLID network adapter. I was very surprised at how much it weighs. It is a block of metal, which is also encased in a rubber sleeve which is removable, but the rubber sleeve is nice so that it won't scratch other items you might place it on. There are no heat sink "fins" on this adapter though, it is just smooth black metal but it is large enough that it should dissipate heat without issue. My primary use for this item will be with one of the Ryzen 7 Mini PC's with USB 4/Thunderbolt 3 ports; However, I don't have that PC yet. I did test with with a Mac Mini (M1) and it was plug and play. I just plugged in the Thunderbolt cable, plugged in the network cable, and I was off and running. I see no reason why the Ryzen Mini PC will be any different.I tried using this adapter plugged into 1gig, 2.5gig, and 10gig network ports and it worked with them all. The port speed negotiation seemed a bit slow (at first I thought it wasn't going to work) but with a bit of patience, all worked as expected. Not sure why one would pay the price for a 10gig ethernet adapter and only use 1gig or 2.5gig, but at least the flexibility is there if you need to connect to a non-10gig port in a pinch. This is an Ethernet/RJ45 adapter only. You cannot use an SFP+ module with this adapter, so if you need an optical connection, you'll need to look elsewhere. However, if your only need is RJ45, this adapter is a good value compared to some other Thunderbolt 3 options.PROS: Solid metal build quality for heat dissipation Includes a rubber cover to protect metal device from scratches/getting scratched Status LED's on RJ45 connector to let you know link speed (10gig or Tested with 10gig, 2.5gig, and 1gig, all work fine. 5gig not tested. Thunderbolt cable included in box Tested "plug and play" on Mac Mini M1CONS: No light to indicate active thunderbolt connection No thunderbolt pass-through port Only RJ45, not SFP+ module compatibleConclusion: I looked at several other thunderbolt 3 10gig ethernet adapters which were significantly more expensive. This one is a good value from a trusted brand.

I needed a 5GBE adapter for laptops and Sabrent is known for the price/quality balance. This 10G adapter is priced well enough for me to bite. It is plug and play, but the first thing I did was update the firmware using utility from their website. Used it on an Asus Studiobook and Macbook Pro M1 without issues. The only performance setting I tweaked was MTU to 9000 to match other devices connected to my TrendNet 10G switch.I was not able to test max speed because I have no RAID or stripped configurations. I was able to get transfer speeds of 450 MB/s from a Samsung 870 EVO (SATA III) on my QNAP Nas so I'm happy with that.Keep in mind that it gets hot, maybe not enough to burn your skin, but enough that I can't rest it on my bare lap.I took a star away because I don't like the fit of the thunderbolt port and cable. I feel that it can be dislodged too easily. Maybe they can revise the design to have either a tighter snap, or a retainer clip.Overall I'm happy and hope this will last a long time.WISH: If Sabrent redesign this into a multiport switch powered by thunderbolt with another 10G or 2.5G port, I would pay double.

I use this for my NEWS server 10G internet connection and get 575MB/sec downloading 80GB files. I was using the OWC but we identified a problem with it when you start to run over 50 connections to the server, after hours of trouble shooting with a very knowledgeable tech, we identified the one difference between them, the Intel TB3 chipset. The OWC uses a higher end version of the chipset that supports video and this one uses one below it, but it only for networking, so none of the other things the OWC had in it. Also you need to set your TCP Receive and Send Buffers to the max in the driver details of the device manager. This thing is rock solid, but it get hot, around 48° Celsius, always, so keep it in an open area and have a good insulater below it, mine is on my glass TV stand beside the server. The OWC's are great, but not for what I was looking for, this one I just decided to try and it had zero issues.Highly recommended!!
