I didn't have to use this for the removal of the crankshaft bolt but it came in handy for the torquing down of the crankshaft bolt. Ended up using it again for the removal and installation of the flywheel while replacing clutch. It only fits one way so if it feels like it doesn't fit, turn it 180°.

All I have to say is that this tool worked like a charm! I even used it to hold the cams in place while loosening the crank bolt when needed.

I’ve worked on a lot of 5vz’s and my preferred method of removal for crank bolt is an IR composite body impact gun with a short socket. With the radiator out there is just enough clearance to sneak it in there and not hit the condenser but you can only crack it free and then spin it off by hand otherwise the gun interferes with the condenser. As far as install you’re kind of guessing on torque if you use a gun. This tool works well to crack it free and spin it off by hand or with an air ratchet. It’s great for install to get exact torque. I’ve probably had a couple hundred occasions to use this and never had problems without it, but I think if you’re doing a lot of them it’s worth the money. I’m glad I finally have it. I still use a dot of blue LocTite on the bolt for good measure.

Fit my 2002 Tacoma 3.4 V6 perfectly. When tightening the crank bolt, the balancer still rotated a few degrees before it stopped (breaker bar was in the tool and against the frame), so I thought the tool might not be holding correctly, but I think the movement was due to the rubber twisting in between the sections of the balancer. Once I realized this, I was worried that the balancer would break under the 217 ft-lbs spec, but it torqued down fine. 4 Stars instead of 5 due to the price of this tool. It's certainly solid, but its not even super precise. Its a lot to pay as non pro. I'll be lucky to use it a couple times in my life.

Worked great on my V6 3.4L Toyota engine (5VZ-FE). A bit pricey but saves you a lot of time and hassle. With all the money saved doing the timing belt and water pump replacement myself I had no problem spending some cash on this tool. All parts used were Toyota OEM from reputable stores online; big saving compared to the Toyota dealer.

Just did a timing belt change. There are other ways to keep the crankshaft from turning when loosening and tightening the crankshaft bolt, but this is definitely the easiest and most professional. At my age, for the fifty or sixty dollars this costs, I'm not crawling under the car to shove a screwdriver through the flywheel teeth. Buy this tool, save yourself a hassle, and don't look back.

This tool is worth it's weight in gold. I have done several timing belt kits on Toyota trucks and always had trouble fabricating a home made tool to hold the crankshaft pulley in place to remove the harmonic balancer. I decided to bite the bullet and buy the Schley tool. I am so glad that I did. The tool in combination with a 1/2" breaker bar braced against the frame made short work of the crankshaft bolt. And when torquing the bolt to over 200 ft. pounds the tool held the crank with no problem. I am sure this tool cut about an hour off the job. It still took me about 8 hours from start to finish, as I am not a professional mechanic. Highly recommend this tool. It is very heavy and well constructed.

This is a fantastic product! It's a solid piece of metal that will last for years. This makes replacing the timing belt on my v6 3.4l 2004 tacoma double cab a one man job! I recommend this to everyone who is thinking about doing this job. It will make your life a lot easier and save a lot of time.
