  • The Scary Sharp Sharpening Method is an approach to sharpening knives and woodworking tools that is fast, effective, consistent and very cost effective
  • Comes with anti-slip mat, using advanced manufacturing tech, helping keep the glass plate from sliding while you sharpen your tools and accessories.

  • The glass plate measures 5-1/8in wide x 11-7/8in long and a full 3/8in thick, it’ll apply on vast majority of tools.

When sharpening your tools, one of the biggest challenges is to find a truly flat surface. the SCOTTCHEN Dead Flat Plate Glass is the perfect solution to this issue and better yet, the glass supports standard (PSA) sandpaper to help you create the perfect cutting edge!

With the super smooth, tempered glass plate that measures 5 1/8in wide x 11 7/8in long and a full 3/8in thick, you’ll be able to sharpen the vast majority of tools in your workshop.

To properly hone your tools, you need an abrasive material. While you could always use an expensive wet stone or an even more expensive diamond stone, the SCOTTCHEN Dead Flat Plate Glass utilizes traditional sandpaper to achieve the same result at a fraction of the cost.

Our product also includes a rubber mat that is designed to help keep the glass plate from sliding while you sharpen your tools and accessories. The mat is cut to be slightly larger than the glass plate. It can be used over and over again and when it gets too much build up of dirt and debris, simply clean it with warm soapy water

This 'Dead Flat' piece of glass is laughably banana shaped. Bought this to tram a CNC router's spindle and was sadly disappointed. A thin piece of glass from a cheap picture frame is flatter than this thing. The picture frame glass was 0.002" out of flatness. This was 0.04". Returned.

My old grinder was starting to struggle when I was grinding venison. Rather than buy a new grinder, I sharpened the grinder plates and knife myself using this plate. I have not measured the plate for flatness other than eyeballing a straight edge over its surface. For my purposes it was more than flat enough.

This is a must if you need an absolutely flat surface for lapping, and don't want to shell out for a granite surface plate. I Purchased this primarily for lapping duties, but also for knife sharpening from time to time. Had it checked on a milling machine and the dial indicator (+/- 0.001") did not move from zero once set on the glass!!!Weight is perfect, as it doesn't move on my silicone work pad. Although it's much larger than really needed.... I kind of wish I had gotten the larger plate so I could put 3 different grit silicon carbide papers on it at the same time.

I attached PSA sandpaper to it to sharpen woodshop edges. Chisels and plane anvils. Have a large collection that have been neglected for many years. Many had been sharpened on a grinder and needed to be reprofiled. Started doing it with a diamond plate but due to the number of blades and the wear it was putting on the plate, I needed a different solution. The glass plate with psa sandpaper worked great. Did require sandpaper changes fairly often as they are not as hard as the diamond plate.

I thought I would only use this periodically for sharpening, but it hasn’t left my workbench since I got it. So many uses for a known dead-flat surface. I use it for glue-ups, for sanding of box tops and small parts… and any glue squeeze out easy scrapes off with a razor blade. Definitely glad I got it.

Have yet to use this. Just arrived in the mail. Is indeed dead flat and dimensionally accurate, but had some minor scratches in it. I was hoping it would be perfect but for what this is described as being used for, it's not a big deal. Came with a non-slip mat as well for underneath which is perfect.
