I have not yet had a chance to use it for its manufactured purpose, spearing fish. I tired it on an attacking raccoon, but it bounced off its skin, did not pierce. Obviously, I survived; it repelled the raccoon, but I know it will return. It was just the closest weapon I could grab, in city limits, to defend my cat from the raccoon that had gotten into my garage. The cat got some open wounds but is healing.

Good size. Good basic spear. I've used it a season now and there's no signs of rust or corrosion. I've added a longer tip (B00BSZ48UE) for larger fish and it really helps make sure you retain them on the end of the spear. I've also added some grip tape (B002LA2258) to make it easier to hold onto while lining up my shot since the shaft is so slick without it. My spear has gone from good to great!

This is the perfect length lionfish pole spear. The smaller ones are just useless. A lot of times I have to spear a fish in a tight area where the shorter ones just didn't work. Sure the fish don't move much and they are easy to kill but there is much more power behind this pole. You'll appreciate it if you hit their boney cheek plate. The spear tip is perfect too.

I actually used this for clearing cactus from ranch land. I would chop the cactus with a machete and use this to pick up the pieces. I got tired of using a shovel and thought this might do the trick. It sure did. No bending down, the small barbs are enough to hold the cactus but not enough that you can't fling it off into a pile. Held up some pretty large and heavy pieces with no funny noises or apparent damage. I know I'm not using it for its intended purpose, but I gave it a much more intense workout than it was intended for and it did great, so buy with confidence that it can do what it was intended for. Only con I could find is I would like the steel to be stiffer, occasionally I had to readjust the separation between the prongs, but again I'm picking up 5-10 lb pieces of cactus and tossing them, so that's above and beyond what it was intended to do.
