The split ring seems a little heavy for the rest of the retractor. The nylon clip certainly should be adequate. I like the 39 inch extension and 18 oz pull. If I let go of my new dive camera it will retract to my chest and allow me to use both hands when I need to. Nice thin stainless cable that looks sturdy enough. The whole unit feels solid and works well as I test it out before dive trip.

The plastic peg / spring holder broke right off. Now the spring does not stay in place to tension and retract.

I bought this compass for an upcoming AOW class and thought it was a good deal (bought a second one for my wife).But during the class as we got ready for our Navigation dive I discovered that mine was wildly off compared to all the other compasses everyone else had - like 90° or so but it wasn’t consistent. I don’t think it was exposed to anything magnetic that could have affected it. My wife’s seemed reasonably accurate.My wife noted there is a small bubble in mine but I find it hard to believe that was the cause. I was kind of wondering if maybe mine was somehow calibrated for the Southern Hemisphere.The retractor part worked fine.

Is really BIG! The plastic clip seems quite flimsy ( will replace it with a proper bolt snap) .... rest of it seems solid & well built.I modified it a bit & am using it as a retractor for my SpareAir attached to my backplate.

I have purchased the Gear Keeper brand for SCUBA diving console retention. They last a few years and then the spring breaks due to salt water corrosion. I bought the SCUBA Choice product to see if it would work but it does not have enough retention force to be used for the console application. It would probably work for lighter applications like small flashlights or underwater tablets. I'll need to find something else with a retention of at least 24oz.

I would have put 5 stars if it wasn't for the fact that the hook that goes up to the d ring on my bcd is made in plastic and doesnt feel like the strongest plastic ... but hey it works so far and does the job
